We're thrilled to announce that Dr. Terry Sejnowski of UC San Diego and Dr. Haim Sompolinsky of Harvard University and The The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, have been awarded the prestigious 2024 Brain Prize for their groundbreaking work in computational and theoretical neuroscience! (They share this honor with Dr. Larry Abbott of Columbia University.) 🧠 The Brain Prize, awarded by the Lundbeck Foundation, is the largest international award in brain research. Dr. Sejnowski and Dr. Sompolinsky received their award from His Royal Highness King Frederik X of Denmark in Copenhagen. ONR is proud to have supported these exceptional scientists -- their pioneering contributions have laid the groundwork for brain-inspired AI, enhancing our understanding of brain function, cognition, and behavior. Full #STEM ahead! 🌊 SeaPerch - the ONR-sponsored #NavalSTEM program - brings together students from all over the world to showcase the ROVs they built as part of a curriculum designed to boost STEM skills. Naval STEM Director Alexandra (Sandy) Landsberg adds, “Engaging in outreach at events like SeaPerch is crucial for increasing awareness of the real-world problems faced by the Department of the Navy and for showcasing the diverse, rewarding science and technology careers within the organization.”
