City Light Capital is a venture capital firm that prefers to invest in seed-stage, early-stage, later-stage, and growth-stage companies operating in the technology, education, digital health, climate, food, wellness, energy, agriculture, internet of things, safety & care, and environment sectors. They work with experienced teams to build scalable companies that have a meaningful impact in the areas of education, safety and care, and the environment. These problems are complex and intertwined — there is no silver bullet. They constantly need to consider that new solutions can create new vulnerabilities. Their belief is that private markets can and will play a meaningful role in addressing these truths. https://citylight.vc/ #venturecapital #firm #enterprenuers

Timely article. The time of ZIRP-era VC is decisively over. Need to go back to the grassroots and basics - starting with hard (mostly tech) problems that have inherent differentiation, focusing on efficient company-building brick by brick, supported by craftsperson-type early investors, and staging capital in the optimal way that reflects the extent of real derisking in the company. This approach works really well with smaller AUM funds as the incentives are correctly aligned. https://lnkd.in/gZ-NhcDk

Following the acquisition of Martlet Capital's operational VC business last week, Dr ILIAN ILIEV, MD of EMV Capital, talks to Real Deals. Iliev explains how the transaction will help EMV Capital launch two new funds, looking closely at European and UK-based opportunities, with a particular focus on the Cambridge deep tech ecosystem. ''I'm really bullish on the UK as a location where you can build and scale deep tech companies. Nothing is easy but I think the UK has a comparative advantage over the rest of Europe,'' notes Iliev. #venturecapital #cambridge #deeptech #lifesciences #aim

Industry Manager, Innovation Economy, Co-Head of Technology Banking & Head of Startup Banking at J.P. Morgan
J.P. Morgan is proud to sponsor the PitchBook Q4 2023 Venture Monitor Report, offering the latest insights for startups and venture capital. Here's what early-stage founders need to know: 1) Venture is experiencing a reset and we expect a phased reopening of the IPO market in 2024. J.P. Morgan remains cautiously optimistic that the IPO market will stabilize, paving the way for groundbreaking companies to go public over the next few years. 2) Innovation is thriving across specific sectors. With a growing number of disruptive companies across AI, quantum, robotics and biopharma, and dry powder carrying over from 2023, we may see investors who are hungry to deploy capital this year. 3) Early-stage deal count remained robust in Q4, yet it is expected that many early-stage companies will look to fundraise in 2024. For startups that fall into the latter bucket, the ones that stay focused on cost-effective growth and a strong product offering are likely to attract the right investors. Read the full report from Virginia Chambless and her team below, with the full Q4 2023 Venture Monitor report also accessible from the link below. https://lnkd.in/gx2Dkp_4
