❄️⚠️ Watch your heart this winter! Shoveling snow can be strenuous work, but did you know it can also be hazardous to your cardiovascular health? In addition to the obvious risks of injury, physical exertion can increase blood pressure and heart rate, which can be especially dangerous for those with pre-existing heart problems. It's important to take precautions, such as not overdoing it and taking frequent breaks. Also, make sure you have an automated external defibrillator (AED) on hand in case of an emergency. An AED can be the difference between life and death in a cardiac arrest event, and having one at home can provide an immediate and vital solution in the event of a cardiac emergency. Scroll through to learn more about how to protect your heart during winter chores and make sure you have an AED ready to go at home - take care of your heart and your health this winter! You’ve probably heard that the cells in your body are 70% water. But what happens when it gets so cold that all that water inside your cells starts turning into ice crystals? Here’s the short answer: The ice in your cells causes them to burst. Damage to your blood vessels causes the vessels to clot. New blood can’t get through, and the tissue on the other side of the clot dies. And that is what frostbite is. So, hey, let’s not allow that to happen. Here are tips from some Colorado doctors.
Numb fingers or toes? Here’s how to know if it’s frostbite.

#DidYouKnow that 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of our nation acknowledging February as #AmericanHeartMonth? President Lyndon B. Johnson made the observance official with Proclamation 3566, signed on Dec. 30, 1963. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), heart disease accounts for 700,000 deaths in the U.S., including nearly 400,000 from out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest (#SCA). While people often use the terms ‘heart attack’ and sudden cardiac arrest interchangeably, they are in fact different events, as noted in the compelling graphic attached in this post. Different from heart attack, which is a ‘plumbing’ problem where blood flow to the heart is blocked, sudden cardiac arrest is an ‘electrical’ problem where the heart malfunctions and stops beating normally. The heart can't pump blood to the brain, lungs, and other organs, a person loses consciousness and has no pulse, and death occurs within minutes if the victim doesn't receive a shock from an automated external defibrillator, or #AED. SaveHeart (https://lnkd.in/gG7svijh) has been at the forefront of a growing movement across the country to place AEDs outdoors in highly visible, temperature-controlled ‘smart’ cabinets to protect people, communities, and organizations from the largest cause of natural deaths - SCA. Proudly ‘Made in the USA,’ SaveHeart cabinets provide immediate visibility & 24/7 access to lifesaving AEDs, Stop the Bleed Kits, Narcan, and other emergency supplies, and are ideal for athletic fields, schools & universities, parks, municipalities, marinas, trails, and anywhere outdoors where people congregate.
