Low-paid schools, hindered by limited funding and resources, struggle to provide adequate facilities, staff salaries, and student support services, impacting the overall quality of education. With outdated infrastructure and insufficient resources, these schools face challenges in attracting and retaining qualified educators, providing modern technology, and offering comprehensive student support programs. In contrast, high-paid schools benefit from substantial financial resources, enabling them to invest in state-of-the-art facilities, competitive staff salaries, and extensive student support services. As a result, students attending high-paid schools often have access to a broader range of educational opportunities, extracurricular activities, and support programs, contributing to improved academic outcomes and future success. #EducationDisparity #SchoolFunding #ResourceEquity #StudentSupport #EducationalOpportunity

Alumni Spotlight: Ginger Clark, CPRP '23 B.S. Natural Resource Tourism - Online Ginger graduated with the NRT online degree to pair with her career in parks and recreation. She is currently the manager of the Great Miami Riverway in Dayton, Ohio. She works with a coalition of agencies to manage the Great Miami Riverway Placemaking Initiative, which have goals to develop and implement ongoing marketing, planning, and programming to: • Increase use of recreational, historical, and cultural assets • Attract more visitors • Support economic development • Strengthen river corridor neighborhoods Q&A with Ginger: What are you most excited about with your future career? "I'm most excited to be part of an initiative that is revitalizing communities and unlocking economic potential through the power of connected greenways and recreational amenities. I'm inspired by the Riverway's mission of building a strong, vibrant network of communities, connected by 99 miles of river, by increasing economic and community investment to attract more visitors, customers, jobs, and talented workers to southwest Ohio." During school, did you gain experience with a related job? "While acquiring my CSU degree online, I was able to work full-time at Centerville-Washington Park District, a parks and recreation agency that maintains 51 parks in southwest Ohio. This allowed me to gain experience, a professional certification, and build many of the skills necessary to secure my new position. It also provided networking opportunities, which is crucial. The flexibility of asynchronous classes was key in accommodating work experience and a solid educational foundation simultaneously." What was your favorite HDNR course and why? "That's a tough question, because I took many quality courses at CSU that enriched me in different ways, several of which that stand out. If I was pressed to pick a favorite I suppose it would be Social Aspects of Natural Resource Management with Jon Salerno. The course opened my eyes to the role of social science in natural resource management and conservation, and how it is all inherently linked to human behavior, values, attitudes, and decision-making processes. I thought it was really valuable to see the real world application of HDNR concepts as Jon invited a variety of social scientists to share their career trajectories with the students." #HDNR #NRT #naturebasedtourism #tourism Warner College of Natural Resources #alumni

Connecting education to workforce has long been a challenge, especially when performance assessment in education doesn't align with the competencies employers seek. The good news: educators in many cases are already promoting many of these competencies but using different terminology. If you are an educator in Pima County Arizona, check out this professional development opportunity that addresses this!
