#Green #Bettas 🐠 Betta fish may seem like a basic choice for an aquarium. 🐠 These 3-inch-long fish are indeed a very popular choice. 🐠 This hue comes from the selective breeding of two fish with admiral traits. 🐠 It’s crucial to know the lineage of the fish to get specific colors. 🐠 Though they’re easy to care for, they require specific conditions to thrive. 🐠 Bettas are known for being solitary and aggressive. 🐠 They can live anywhere from 2-5 years if cared for properly. 🐠 While they tend to be hostile toward other fish, they can be social toward their human caretakers. 🐠 Some will swim excitedly when they see their owner approach! 🐠 Plan on using at least a 3-gallon tank and a top-notch filtration system. 🐠 The optimal temperature range for green betta is 72°F–82°F, and they prefer living in water with a pH level between 6.8 and 7.5. #Knowledge #Sharing by Prashant Srivastava

How do you add fish to an aquarium? There are so many different methods for acclimating fish to a new aquarium. Below I have outlined the process that I have used. This method has been used over and over again and I am yet to have issues with it. 1) Float the sealed bag in the aquarium. Make sure there is enough leeway in the aquarium where displacement doesn't cause an overflow! 2) Place a fish net over the top of a bucket. I find it is helpful to slightly bend the 'long side' of the net, opposite from the handle. You can use this to hook over the edge of the bucket. 3) After 15 minutes, remove the bag from the aquarium. Open the bag and tip it through the net. The bucket will catch the 'waste' water and you will be left with the fish in a net. 4) Put the fish in the aquarium. For a lot of fish, I find it best to take them down to the bottom of the aquarium and let them swim out. This stops them from getting attacked on the way down as other fish if the other fish think they are food. This is the most successful method I have found for adding fish to the aquarium. This method ensures there is no temperature shock for the fish. It ensures they do not go into shock, but also gets them into the aquarium as fast as is safe. #AquariumCare #fishkeeping #fishtanksetup #aquariumbeginner #fishtanktips #aquariumadvice #fishtankcommunity #aquariumlife #fishcare #aquariumhobby #aquariums #aquariumsofinstagram

“Captive CON$ervation” Is it time to break with colonial legacy of zoos? Published in 2016, but remains a relevant and compelling discussion today: “Menageries of the 19th century brought exotic animals (and people) to Western society – as do many zoos today. The shooting of Harambe the gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo has reignited debate about how to properly care for and conserve zoo animals. Several petitions have been created on Change.org, seeking some form of justice for Harambe. Given the conservation mission of the modern zoo, there is much discussion about how we might make zoos better to prevent an event like the one that led to Harambe’s death.” “Zoo visitors have learned the rules of the game – animals are enclosed, not caged; animals are in the enclosure, people are not. Exotic places, animals and people are neatly represented in essential ways. The desire to conform the world to one of our own narration is an articulation of the colonial project.” “But what if the entire premise of zoos is to blame? Instead of seeking justice for Harambe, or improving zoo policies or exhibit design, we should first ask what, precisely, are we conserving in zoos? In my view, we are perpetuating an outmoded worldview rooted in colonialism.” Complete Article: https://lnkd.in/gUcYaSmw #captiveconservation #nomorezoos #TheConservationGameMovie

Adventure out to the cliffs of Potberg Mountain to view endangered Cape Vultures – the Western Cape’s last surviving colony of these amazing birds. Guests depart from the Opstal Area in the morning (times vary according to seasons) with a guide for a scenic drive through endangered fynbos. Once at Potberg, guests hike (±1 hour) up to the Vulture Deck to watch the vultures swoop and soar above. The rate includes a packed picnic presented in a carry bag. This activity is suited to guests aged 12 and over. We accommodate a minimum of 2 guests and maximum of 10. Prior arrangement & booking essential. Day visitors are welcome. "The Cape Vulture Colony at De Hoop Nature Reserve is one of the few populations of Cape Vulture (Gyps coprotheres) that is increasing in numbers. This is the only resident vulture within the Western Cape and is currently listed as endangered. According to the IUCN conservation status report the global population is decreasing. The colony is monitored by CapeNature through population counts, nest success and ad hoc markings of individuals. On 26 August 2020, CapeNature staff hiked up Potberg Mountain to assess the colony. Using a telescope, nest contents were documented as having adults, chicks or no content in the nest. If a chick was seen, it was aged according to its size. Nests are monitored throughout the breeding season to determine the breeding success of the colony. This process keeps track of reproductive success and survival of chicks which gives us an indication of how well that colony is doing and if there are any notable changes that may affect the long term success of the colony." #birds #birdwatching #birdsofinstagram #capevulture #endangeredspecies #ccr #guidedtour

Lead Strategy & Market Analyst at ARAMCO, Ex Tata Steel; Ex Rio Tinto, Environment, Forest, Sustainability, Climate Change, NbS, CSR, ESG, TCFD, TNFD, Carbon Finance, Policy & Strategy Expert,
From my #Aquarium: Yesterday I clicked this video at my home. In the last six years I have only changed the water of my aquarium only once. The reason was Hypostomus plecostomus and water filter. This fish is also known as the #suckermouth #catfish or the common #pleco, is a tropical #freshwater fish belonging to the armored catfish family, named for the longitudinal rows of armor-like scutes that cover the upper parts of the head and body. They are renowned for their #algae #eating abilities, helping to maintain a clean and balanced environment by consuming algae that can accumulate in tanks. Additionally, plecos are #scavengers, feeding on leftover food and detritus, contributing to overall aquarium cleanliness. Furthermore, plecos are generally peaceful and can coexist with a variety of fish species. Their distinctive appearance, with armor-like plates and unique patterns, adds visual interest to the aquarium. Some species of plecos are also known for their compatibility with different water conditions, making them adaptable to diverse setups. In summary, pleco fishes contribute to aquarium health by controlling algae, aiding in tank maintenance, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal. #fish #biodiversity #freshwater #jamshedpur
