Let candidates speak to someone senior in engineering before you ask them to invest time in technical stages! 🗣 Our average process in 2023 was 3.5 stages (permanent hires) The attrition rate for candidates who spoke to someone (in engineering) on the team first was significantly lower than for clients who asked for a technical stage first. Why? ⏲ -They have had time invested in them before they have invested in the process 👨💻 They can understand the engineering challenge much better than a Job Description - a more informed opinion 😍 Other processes that do offer this will always seem more attractive than ones that dont

Engineering Manager Turned Recruiter || I Help Civil & Structural Engineers Find Amazing New Jobs! || Founder @ Agavos Group
Great engineering and ops managers I’ve worked with have the following in common: 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓: – Overwork their employees. – Say things like, “This is always how we’ve done it. Why change now?” – Prolong the interview process. – Avoid technology due to a learning curve. 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐃𝐎: – Talk about work/life balance, and act on it through company benefits. – Study the current job market and pay competitive compensation. – Open up possibilities to candidates with varying experience (individual contributor vs. consultant vs. manager/leader) – Leverage technology, focusing on automation and quality control. – Push for eliminating repetitive and mundane work from their engineers. – Provide clear expectations and career growth opportunities. – Work with a recruiter who specializes in their job market. ;-) These are the types of companies I strive to work with. These are the engineering managers I love to meet!

Are you struggling to give your engineering team perspective on their future at your company? Do your engineers leave before being promoted once? Perhaps you need a Career Framework! A Career Framework is both a roadmap for any employee to envision their future and a description of expectations. Here are a few reasons why you might want or need one. 👉 Your engineers are asking for promotions, but you have no references to determine if they really outgrew their current position. 👉 You feel someone struggles to deliver good results but has no defined expectations for the position. 👉 You want to limit your bias when deciding who and when to promote or increase pay. 👉 You encounter massive pushback from your team whenever you change your work organization and don't understand why. 👉 You think you could use someone more specialized but don’t know where to set the bar, and the candidates you're seeing just aren't it. 👉 You constantly face HR problems with multiple team members without achieving stability. These are signs you could massively gain from deploying even a simple Career Framework to 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲, and other common managerial challenges. For me, a company that doesn’t have such a tool does not care enough for its employees, and I wouldn’t want to work for or with them.
