As the temperatures rise, remember to stay hydrated! When I worked as a care homes pharmacist this time of the year we would ensure the residents were kept well hydrated from increased drink rounds and hydration stations to mocktail making sessions. Hydration plays a vital role in maintaining our overall health and wellbeing, especially during hot weather: 🌡 Regulates Body Temperature: Adequate water intake helps your body stay cool, preventing heat exhaustion and heat stroke. 🏃♂️ Boosts Physical Performance: Proper hydration keeps your muscles and joints working efficiently, reducing the risk of cramps and fatigue. 🧠 Enhances Cognitive Function: Staying hydrated supports brain function, improving concentration, memory, and mood. It's not just about drinking water. Foods with high water content, such as fruits and vegetables, can also contribute to your hydration goals. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the summer! https://lnkd.in/e-X_bsPn #Health #Wellbeing #Hydration #SummerHealth #StayHydrated

While we are currently witnessing the harshest of weather conditions, here are some precautions to take, to prevent a heatstroke - 1. Avoid Direct Sunlight: Try avoiding direct exposure to sun between 9 am to 4 pm, if possible. If you have to be out in the sun, wear a hat or walk with a light umbrella. 2. Get Acclimated: Start out with small shifts in the heat, building up your resistance to the elevated temperature that you are not used to. 3. Avoid Enclosed Spaces: Sunstroke can also occur in an enclosed space with no air flow. This can be a house without air conditioning or fans, a car without the windows open, or any other small, enclosed room that has no cool air movement. 4. Stay Hydrated: Drink at least 5-6 litres of water in a day and keep electrolytes handy. Have coconut water, ORS/ Electral, buttermilk, etc. 5. Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and a hat with a wide brim to protect from sun’s dangerous heat radiation. 6. Pay Special Attention to At-Risk People: Children, seniors, and people with certain health problems such as obesity, hypertension, alcoholism, mental illness and COPD are more prone to heatstroke. 7. Be Aware of Medicinal Reactions: Some medication can increase your risk of developing problems following exposure to heat. Speak with your HCP to find out if your medication increases your risks of suffering from heatstroke. Sunstroke is a serious and life-threatening condition, so it’s important to take these precautions when spending time outdoors in the sun. Stay safe! 😊 #soswithshvaas #sos #sunstroke #cpr #shvaas
