Top observations from the Urban Land Institute Northwest Arkansas Placemaking Conference: 1. NWA is incredible. Lots of positive energy and exciting things happening there. Also, incredibly welcoming to folks from other places. 2. "Everyone has a role in placemaking, it requires all of us, together" 3. Des Moines, Iowa has built 30-50% of all new housing in the last 10 years in/near downtown. Incredible! 4. Great to see these principles laid out in an accessible format. Placemaking is such an important aspect of good urban design and community infrastructure. We all have those moments where a particular sound or smell catapults your mind to a distant memory that hasn’t entertained your thoughts in eons! This sort of sensory experience can evoke powerful memories and emotions, creating deep, lasting connections between people and their environments. While some memorable smells and sounds can be transient, such as the smell of sweet roasted nuts or the improvised symphony of a funfair; others can be designed in as permanent fixtures of the sensory landscape. The small of cherry blossom, always takes me back to my local park where a long cherry tree lined promenade always emanates the most wonderful scent in spring. The smell of pine always reminds me of my grandmother’s house, and the clicking sound of waves moving pebbles on the shore takes me back to childhood holidays… … ok, so sound of crashing waves might be a harder to design into new places, but we can certainly consider sensory districts that can help create deeper emotional bonds to place. #Placemaking #UrbanDesign #CommunityEngagement #Sustainability #UrbanPlanning #PublicSpaces HKR Architects

Life of a marginal farmer and a Mango tree: A marginal farmer with one mango tree with a small piece of land works so hard to harvest the food for his/Family seasonal while working as daily wagers in metropolitan. Entire family waits for whole year to see tree flowering every spring and feels happy but not every time lucky to see flowers converting to fruits, even the best fruiting year he/her expects some 100-150 kgs mangoes but finds no market for the harvest because the cost of taking care & reaching market to sell throws him/her out of competition so they pluck the raw mangoes and make pickles which they use as substitute to vegetables during the time cost of vegetables soaring high with breads harvested from small piece of land ..and fall sick due to lack of nutrition (end up purchasing medicines profiting the same industries where worked as daily wagers)while the industries keep their data in metropolitan to negotiate hard for the cost control ..entire family get shattered in the search of bread in different directions away from village where they are called migrants...and it goes on year & years every year but trouble never comes to halt ... Jaivik Gurugram-A social innovation initiative to create market place for #MarginalFarmers in DELHI/NCR and later all the metropolitan cities so that his/her tree ripened mangoes can compete the market price & earns as an entrepreneur while earning livelihood happily with family together and not allow industries to negotiate hard ..let marginal farmers become entrepreneur/skilled workers to serve nation better,let them co-exist with the world of AI ..let's do our bit!!
