Construction of HCMC Ring Road No. 4 section through Dong Nai to start in 2026-Total cost of section estimated at $714 million. The Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee has agreed to the scale and implementation progress of a section of Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road No. 4 passing through the southern province. The 35-km section will cost an estimated VND17 trillion ($714 million) and have four lanes. Over VND7.8 trillion ($327 million) of the cost will be used for site clearance and the remainder for project construction. A feasibility study will be conducted in the third quarter of 2024, with construction scheduled to get underway in 2026 and be completed in the first quarter of 2028. The 198-km Ring Road No. 4 passes through Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and Binh Duong provinces, Ho Chi Minh City, and Long An province. A great start to 2024, as we're delighted to announce having been selected to participate in Phase 2 of 'GCRE: Railway Construction Innovation'. GCRE is the new Global Centre Of Rail Excellence, currently being built in South Wales to research, test and certify innovative new rail technologies. Our part in the project is to reduce the embodied carbon in concrete sleeper production (~350,000 units manufactured per annum). Using our #graphene-enhanced admixture and working with project partner CEMEX UK, we'll be helping Network Rail achieve ambitious targets for reduction in emissions of 46% (scope 1,2) and 28% (scope 3) by 2029. Concretene co-founder Alex McDermott said: "We're really pleased to have made it through to the second phase of the GCRE project, which is critical to the future of a more sustainable rail industry. “I’ve spent many years working on rail infrastructure and understand the costs and time pressures around repair and renewal of the network. GCRE is unique opportunity to test innovative technologies at network scale and speed, derisking the deployment of that tech in the live rail environment.” The project is funded by the Department for Business and Trade through the competition ‘GCRE: Railway Construction Innovation Phase 2’, delivered by Innovate UK in collaboration with GCRE. Challenges for Asphalt Balanced Mixture Design Implementation and How the Research Community Can Help The evolution of asphalt mix design has been pivotal in ensuring our infrastructure meets the demands of modern traffic and environmental conditions. The Superpave method, born out of the Strategic Highway Research Program, has long been foundational in this journey, focusing on volumetric properties to enhance performance in the field. Recent advancements in mechanical testing, however, have ushered in a new era with the concept of Balanced Mix Design (BMD). BMD promises enhanced pavement performance and opens doors for contractor innovation, yet its integration into current practices presents multifaceted challenges across agencies, consultants, and contractors. The TR Circular E-C293 (https://lnkd.in/eUffgkcu) delves into some of these challenges from varied perspectives, offering insights gleaned from experiences across different sectors of the asphalt community. This document represents the summary of a session titled “Balanced Mix Design Implementation Challenges and Tools” delivered at the 102nd Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board in Washington, DC, in 2023. Representatives from agencies, consultants, and contractors shared their experiences, highlighting issues such as test selection, regional testing capacities, and the spectrum of testing approaches. From the agency perspective, a partnership-driven approach is essential, navigating challenges in test selection and regional testing capacities. Consultants emphasize the need for standardized approaches and confidence in testing repeatability, while contractors advocate for enhanced research collaboration to streamline operations and validate specifications. This collective effort underscores the industry's commitment to overcoming challenges through collaboration, innovation, and practical research. By fostering partnerships and embracing innovation, we can pave the way for resilient, sustainable, and high-performing asphalt pavements that meet the needs of today and tomorrow.
