Day 23 🚀 Today's post is on Mission 2.5: Mood Boards A moodboard is a visual ideation technique where you create a collage of images, colours and fonts that help to shape and determine the look and feel of your product. This mission was simply about collecting images and creating a moodboard for my product. The instruction for the task was to include 8-10 references split between fonts, colours and imagery. Most of the images I collected were in line with the themes of fitness and nutrition, to give the moodboard a consistent look. My submission for this task was done in Figma, and is attached to this post. Design friends - question for you: is it worth it to migrate past work to behance or dribble? I've had dribble & behance for years, but mostly used them for inspo and never posted. I find myself trying to parse down my portfolio (make it more concise, migrate past projects, add more recent case studies), but still want my works to "live" somewhere. Is it worthwhile to migrate this past visual design work or is it a waste of time? Recently, I've been on a journey through the pages of "Things Are What You Make Of Them" by the brilliantly witty Adam J. Kurtz, and boy, let me tell you, it's been a rollercoaster of insights and creative epiphanies! Embracing Imperfection: Kurtz's reminder that things don't need to be perfect to be meaningful hit home. Designing Your Day: I've started treating my day like a design project. From the morning chia pudding ritual to the last-minute creative sparks before bedtime – it's all part of the grand composition. Sometimes the most impactful designs are the ones with the courage to exclude, to say "no" to the unnecessary clutter and focus on what truly matters. The Blank Page Fear: We've all stared at that blank canvas or Figma file, right? Kurtz's approach to overcoming this fear is a gem. I've adopted a ritual of scribbling the silliest doodle or jotting down a random idea before starting a project. It's like my creative warm-up routine. Hello all — wanted to let you all know about a new Live #Accessibility Masterclass I’m doing with the brilliant Piccia Neri next week. I’ll tell you a little about it, but details can be found here: https://lnkd.in/ePsryNEm In a nutshell, the main reason I love this class is because it gives people a simple, straightforward way to approach accessibility. Without the complexity and overwhelm that typically accompanies such work. A lot of #UX, #UI and #ProductDesign folks I teach and coach tell me three things routinely: - They’re overwhelmed by the idea of making their design work more accessibile — and quite literally don’t know where to start. - While they DO want their work to be more inclusive and accessible, they’re worried that would mean radically reinventing what they do and how they do it. - They’ve lost countless battles with their product managers, executives and even developers when they propose accessibility improvements. The easiest way towards accessibility is to start with the basic founding blocks of the web: semantically structured content and properly styled typography. Two things most product designers and UXers are very likely already touching anyway — but very likely not fully leveraging either one. When you start from here, you’ve already gone miles down the road toward building an accessible product — and you haven’t had to argue with a single soul to do it. Take this essential step, and you’ll be already doing better than 95.9% of the top 1 million web pages. That’s because many accessibility issues are actually simple ones, very easy to fixes — simply by going back to these fundamental building blocks. With one crucial differentiating factor: Typography isn’t just styling: it starts from HTML. Get the two right, and you’re off to the races. Anyway, I’ll step off the soapbox. If accessibility is important to you — but you feel like you don’t know where to start — or haven’t been able to convince other people that it matters, check out the class.
