We are through our first week of our volunteer placements in Uganda. In this session, Shauna worked with fellow volunteers as part of our library programme. Volunteers use books as a tool to spark the imagination of primary school children and generate conversation in the classroom.

Learning for lasting peace. Today we celebrate the essence and importance of education. A gift that not every child has access to, but is a transformative power to the ones who gain access to it. We have seen in the past year the change it has brought to our children in our school. Their ability to read and write and to understand what it means. As we currently are in the process of registering new learners, the difference in skills and knowledge once again has become so clear. That’s why we continue to work hard toward quality education in rural areas in Uganda. Education that empowers and transforms the lives of the students and through them their communities. This year’s theme is: Learning for lasting peace. Jesus said: I leave the gift of peace with you - my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. John 14:27. As we are teaching, let’s receive the gift of peace and walk in Jesus’ perfect peace. And may that overflow to all our students and their communities.
