It's so easy as an agency to overcomplicate a story. To get lost in overstuffed strategic meandering or convoluted ideas. But powerful stories hit hard because they're clear. Their beating heart, the insight that drives them and how it comes to life, can be understood immediately. It hits you like a truck because it's clear, not because it's ponderous. This new campaign captures what I think represents the best strategies and the most resonant stories. It has a message anyone can feel connected to ("effort, especially in the face of adversity, is heroic and inherrently Canadian") narrated by a homegrown icon (Michael J Fox) who perfectly symbolizes that. A hero you can't help but be proud of. A hero you recognize right away, and hope you have a little of in yourself. It's not simple to land a strategy like this. It's not simple to develop it into a powerful story. But it is simple to understand why it works so well. And it's simple to see why a client would be excited to choose it, and a country would respond to it.
