The sun is shining (well some of the time), there's adventures to be had and the packing up of school to look forward to. But it can also be difficult for young people. Worries around exam results, body image, mental health and loneliness are just some of the things children may be thinking about. Knowing the signs to look out for can help them get the support they need 💚 Follow the link for more advice: https://bit.ly/36AblQG Image description: ’Signs of anxiety in children can include: avoiding spending time with family, feeling nervous a lot of the time, panic attacks, feeling tearful, upset or angry, having trouble sleeping, and changes in eating habits.’ An illustration depicts an adult in a pink top holding their child closely to comfort them. #NSPCCParenting

When teenagers have mental health problems, sometimes we forget just how much parents are affected. So much is at stake for them. Their challenging experience in this case, was how long it took to find support that worked and thinking whether anything would. Over a prolonged period, nothing was changing. In Mindsmith Thinking we focus on knowledge of "your mind" and how you as an individual respond to situations. We then teach you how you adapt, so that adversity, becomes difficulty, or even something that is no longer a concern. We focus on mind and life skills, which help you develop "emotional regulation", knowledge of self and others. With this approach, you don't have to wait until you have a problem to learn more about your responses, it can be proactive, and as a result life can look very different, for all concerned. Yes, the last line. Not so much the recognition, but for me, seeing someone fulfilling their potential, because they have been willing to listen and use what they learn. Let us know if we can help. #mentalhealth #education #proactivementalhealth

Sadly, loneliness is close to the top of challenges facing todays constantly plugged in, super connected kids. It's an issue that impacts our kid's mental health more than we are currently acknowledging, so I think it's somethings we need to be talking about a lot more. In this blog I've wanted to offer you language to help you talk to your kids about loneliness. It's one of those feelings that can be super uncomfortable for them to discuss! I also want to tell what the research says about loneliness (hint: what school they go to matters), and what can trigger it (it's not just the negative big life events). Lastly, we are going to talk about how we can best support our kids, especially when they are struggling. You can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gaPVYAuA

Each year, 19% of adults, 46% of teenagers, and 13% of children suffer from mental illnesses. These individuals could be members of your family, neighbours, friends or coworkers. Only 50% of those impacted, receive treatment; this is frequently due to the stigma associated with mental illness. Untreated mental illness can lead to increased risk of suicide, increased medical costs, worse performance at work and school, and fewer job opportunities. The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is : Movement: Moving More For Your Mental Health. Regular physical activity/Exercising is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It reduces progressively your risk of depression and anxiety and helps you sleep better. It can also help keep your thinking, learning, and judgment skills sharp as you age! MENTAL HEALTH IN CHILDREN #Mentalhealth is as important to a child's safety and wellbeing as their physical health. It can impact on all aspects of their life, including their educational attainment, relationships and physical wellbeing. Mental health can also change over time, to varying degrees of seriousness, and for different reasons. #Signs of child mental health issues There are ways you can identify if a child needs support with their mental health. By being attentive to a child or young person's mood and behaviour, you can recognise patterns that suggest they need support. Common warning signs of mental health issues include: ▪️sudden mood and behaviour changes ▪️self-harming ▪️unexplained physical changes, such as weight loss or gain ▪️sudden poor academic behaviour or performance ▪️sleeping problems ▪️changes in social habits, such as withdrawal or avoidance of friends and family. ▪️These signs suggest that a child may be struggling, but there could be a number of different explanations for them. ▪️Don't attempt to #diagnose mental health issues yourself or make assumptions about what’s happening in a child's life. ▪️#Recognising that a child or young person may be struggling with their mental health is the first step in helping them. The next step is to respond appropriately. #Mentalhealth #Mentalhealthinhomes #Mentalhealthinchildren #Mentalhealthawareness

Anxiety and depression are on the rise among children. A report from the Harvard Graduate School of Education sheds light on the increasing rates of anxiety and depression among young adults in the U.S. The study identifies key factors contributing to emotional challenges, including financial pressure, the pursuit of achievement, and a perceived unraveling world. Most notably, nearly three in five young adults reported a lack of "meaning or purpose" in the last month. The findings emphasize the need for a broader conversation about mental health, with a focus on preventative measures and strategies to cultivate meaning and purpose in young adults' lives. https://lnkd.in/efq5HtW4 #MentalHealth #Depression #Anxiety

Every year over 590 young people take their own lives 🖤 🖤 Knowing how to talk to your child about their mental health, or recognising the signs that they might be struggling, can be really hard. Signs of depression or anxiety in children can sometimes look like normal behaviour, particularly in teenagers who can keep their feelings to themselves. 🖤 It’s also natural for children or young people to feel stressed or anxious about things like Covid-19 stress, peer pressures and schooling. But while these experiences can be very difficult, they’re different from longer term depression or anxiety, which affect how a child or young person feels every day. 🖤 It can help to think about what’s normal for your child and if you’ve noticed signs that they’ve been behaving differently recently, seek the help they need. +MH🖤 The Samaritans are here to help: https://lnkd.in/dWujj7z #childmentalhealth #depression #wellbeing #everyonehomesafe #samaritans #mentalhealth #anxiety #mindfulness #parenting
