We know that lots of young people can experience loneliness in their lives, whether that’s during a transitional time, or because of issues with friendships, bullying, stress and anxiety. For many young people, the long summer holidays can leave them feeling isolated and disconnected. Building Connections is an online service that helps empower them to build their confidence and find a way through loneliness, working with a trained befriender who guides and supports them. Professionals can refer young people to the service, find out more: https://lnkd.in/ey-TfGbs Last week, we were thrilled to launch our new partnership with Clarion Housing Group to help support Building Connections over the next 3 years! #LonelinessAwarenessWeek #BuildingConnections #TacklingLoneliness

💪 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 💪 "STRONGER TOGETHER" is a weekly column where IMPACT Community Services Managing director, Tanya O'Shea, explores key issues. This week Tanya discusses the paradox of modern parenting, where children are physically protected but lack mental resilience, advocating for a recalibration of parenting approaches to foster strength and adaptability in the face of adversity. "We cocoon our children in bubble wrap, shielding them from scraped knees, but we expose their minds to unfiltered content. As parents and educators, we must recalibrate our approach. Resilience isn’t built by padding the world—it’s forged in the fires of adversity. It’s the scraped knee that teaches us balance, the failed test that fuels determination, and the broken heart that fosters empathy." As a child therapist, I often hear concerns from parents, friends, and family members about a child's well-being. It can be challenging to know how to approach someone when you're worried about their child, but it's important to handle the situation with care and sensitivity. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀: 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲: Ensure the setting is private and free from distractions. 𝗕𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹: Approach the conversation with empathy and understanding. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Focus on concrete examples of behaviours or changes that you've noticed. 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻: Let them know you care about their child and their family’s well-being. 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Suggest resources, such as speaking to a child therapist or connecting with support groups. Remember, it's about opening a door to support, not about finding fault. Your concern could make a significant difference in a child's life. Have a supportive and understanding weekend! #ChildTherapy #Support #Parenting #CommunityCare

💡Every life is a unique story, and it's essential that we approach the topic of substance use with compassion and understanding. Stigma only serves to isolate and harm those who need our support the most. 💔 🤝 Let's make a choice today: ❤️ Let's choose empathy, not judgment. 💬 Let's listen, not assume. 🌈 Let's offer support, not stigma. It's crucial to remember that we can't truly know someone's journey or the struggles they faced. Instead of speculating about how someone came into contact with substances, let's focus on opening our hearts and minds to help those in need. 💪 👥 Share this message to spread compassion and understanding, and let's build a more inclusive and supportive community. #ChooseEmpathy #BreakTheStigma #SupportNotJudgment

Every year on May 16th, we celebrate International Day of the Boy Child. This day recognises the rights and challenges faced by boys around the world. It's an opportunity to raise awareness about issues like access to education, healthcare, and mental health resources. By promoting the well-being of boys, we can help them reach their full potential. We don't say it nearly enough, but boys deserve to feel supported in their emotional health and well-being, just like girls. Let's break down stereotypes and create a space where boys can openly express their feelings. What can WE do to better support boys emotional health? Let's talk in the comment! #InternationalDayOfTheBoyChild #MentalHealthAwareness #BoysHealthMatters
