📢 Did you know? Thailand is home to 4.9 million migrants, making up over 10% of its workforce. Many come seeking better opportunities but face significant risks of exploitation and trafficking. Women from neighboring countries, as well as ethnic minorities and stateless individuals, are particularly vulnerable. At Not For Sale, Thailand was our first project and marks the beginning of our mission to combat human trafficking, now spanning over 10 countries. Over the next few weeks, we’ll share the story of our work in Thailand – from our start, the history of trafficking, to the lives we've impacted and the latest updates. Stay tuned to learn more about how we're making a difference and join us in the fight against human trafficking. 🙌 #wearenotforsale #endhumantrafficking #thailand #humanrights #socialgood #humantraffickingawareness #endexploitation

Mixed migration through the #DarienGap is increasing. While 248,284 people on the move crossed this border irregularly in 2022, the number rose to 520,085 by 2023 (+110%). Our 🆕 infographic is on the dangers and abuses that #migrants experienced in the Darien Gap, and the assistance needed, based on 900 in-person surveys with those of Venezuelan, Colombian, Ecuadorian, Cuban, Peruvian, and Haitian nationalities. Key findings: ➡️ The Darien Gap remains the most dangerous place on the journey, with 91% of respondents having experienced at least one incident, most commonly injuries, robberies and physical violence. ➡️ Experiences of incidents increased in 2023 compared to 2022. ➡️ Around two-thirds of migrants travelling with #children through the Darien Gap said that children were exposed to the risks of death and sexual abuse in the Darien, alongside a range of other serious risks.

Finally with the launch of the project yesterday , I am pleased to share that this is the project I am managing as CTA. ILO is the lead agency in the project. Though we (colleagues in all four agencies) have worked together, co-developing the project, now we are all learning the nuances and details of implementing the project along with the larger teams in all four agencies, relevant focal point ministries and other partners of each agency. Have some really great colleagues with whom I look forward to joint implementation of the work and contributing to tangible changes for the project target group. #labourmigration #endingviolenceagainstwomen #antitrafficking #ChildrenInMigration

Schools and Community Support Associate - supporting Blue Dragon to rescue Vietnamese kids in crisis
An important read if you want to understand the changing tragedy of human trafficking in South East Asia.
The Covid pandemic radically changed the human trafficking landscape in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. More people and from more diverse social backgrounds are now trafficked into slavery. Vietnamese children and adults are being trafficked to new locations. And the myriad ways in which victims are exploited for other people's gain are in constant expansion. All these changes and new trends are covered in a new Blue Dragon report, and summarised in this fantastic piece by The Telegraph. The "Hell" Jungle for Migrants, the Darien Gap, is a dangerous space! 4 Points to highlight: 1. The Darién in Central America interrupts the Pan-American Highway, making it a treacherous yet unavoidable passage for those journeying from the southernmost tip of Chile and Argentina to the north seeking better living conditions in the US. 2. Beyond natural threats lie risks posed by trafficking and criminal organizations, impacting migrants and indigenous populations alike. 3. Vulnerable groups, particularly women, face the risk of sexual violence, exposing the harsh realities of the journey. 4. The increased daily migration had adverse environmental effects on the Darien National Park. Supporting our volunteers working in the region and advocating for safer migration policies is crucial! #DarienGap #MigrationChallenges #HumanitarianAwareness Cruz Roja Guatemalteca

Women and persons of diverse SOGIESC danced for freedom with Bahaghari-France. 1 of 3 women in the world suffer gender based violence and dancing is our way of taking back our power over our bodies and our rights. While the labor export policy of the Philippine government continues, as the worsening exploitation of capitalists and imperialists continue to worsen climate change, and as wars drive people away from their homes, women and migrants will continue to find better lives. We no longer want to be the scapegoat of governments with worsening national economic and political crises, making it out that migrants are the problem. Migrants maintain their households, take care of their children, and take jobs that they would not even touch with a fifty-foot pole. W will continue to organize and stand for national democracy. We #RiseForFreedom, we #RiseToFreePalestine. We Rise for #NotToDarmaninLaw. #OBR2024

Women's Empowerment Advocate | Advisor/Member Forum for Research and Development For Women/ White Ribbon Alliance Pakistan Chapter | Advisor @ Health Foundation | Expert in Health Management Planning & Policy
About 1.4 million undocumented #Afghan refugees are at greater risk of deportation from #Pakistan after the government of Pakistan pressed a deadline of 1st November for refugees to leaving the country. This could be a violation of their human rights and increase critical concerns of safety, well-being, and access to fundamental services. Women and children are mostly affected dangerously in such situations as they are most vulnerable. The decision could create serious issues and international human rights laws might get violated. #refugees #humanityfirst #refugeerights #humanitariancrisis #womenhealthcare #childrenshealth #childrensrights #childabuseprevention #womenrights #safetyforall #humanrights Source: Amnesty International

The Sisterhood is on a mission to create a legal empowerment ecosystem from the grassroots that is co-designed by SGBV survivors & advocates in Indonesia. Sisters in Justice is our bold new initiative led by refugee women to strengthen legal and non-legal pathways to protection from SGBV that respect women’s agency. In Indonesia, there are laws on sexual violence, domestic violence, and technology-facilitated violence. However, 74% of refugee women told us they had no knowledge about these laws & 79% didn’t know how or where to report SGBV. Hundreds of refugee women in Jakarta need support but do not know lawyers, interpreters, paralegals or services who can help them. As one woman explained in our first consultation when we were founded, “Women survive by just being silent about their situation. They just suffer.” As Sisterhood, we say: “Now is not the time to give up.” This year, eleven of Sisterhood’s members are taking part in our pilot project, deepening and sharing their knowledge and learning on gender, legal protection, referral agencies, case reporting and SGBV support… before initiating community-led action to increase safety and solidarity. #refugees #indonesia #womensrights
