Hardline Federal agencies will almost certainly start to partially shut down on Sunday as a result of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives rejecting a bill put forth by their leader to temporarily finance the government on Friday. The House voted rejected a bill that would have prevented a government shutdown and extended funding by 30 days, 232-198. The Republican aims of cutting spending and limiting immigration in that package had little prospect of clearing the Democratic-controlled Senate. Follow for more such content. US lawmakers vote to avert government shutdown. US lawmakers have passed a government spending package shortly before a midnight deadline, averting a partial government shutdown. The Senate passed six bills totalling $459bn (£357bn) which funds nearly 30% of the government. It faced opposition, however, from some Republicans who argued the measure did not do enough to cut federal spending.
