North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo recently honored Jayda Williams with the prestigious DAISY Award for her exceptional consideration of a patient’s needs. A graduate of the Mississippi University for Women with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Jayda joined our emergency department team as a registered nurse in 2022. The DAISY Award is a national recognition program that celebrates nurses who go above and beyond to not only provide patients and families with excellent care but also compassion. Jayda was nominated for this award when a peer noticed she had stayed after her shift ended. They learned that Jayda had a patient who needed some extra compassion. “The patient had been involved in an accident and didn’t have any friends and family who could help him at the time,” writes her nomination form. “Jayda wanted to ensure that he was able to safely return home.” When the patient was discharged, Jayda, true to her word and with the patient’s permission, ordered him a ride so he could get home safely. Her nominated notes Jayda’s strong values and passion for patient care. Says her peer who nominated her, “Jayda is such a wonderful example of what the DAISY Award represents – she truly is an outstanding role model to all of us.” The excellence in our nurses showcases itself in many ways, including extending extra compassion to patients who need support after discharge. We are honored to celebrate Jayda’s kindness and persistence in supporting her patients in any way she can. Congratulations again, Jayda! #WhatConnectsYou

Maggie is dedicated to being a tireless champion for nurses. She strives to protect nurses' rights and elevate the nursing profession as a whole.
👏 Shoutout to Alex (The Break Nurse) Whitefield, MSN, RN! 👏 In the realm of #nursing, where outdated practices persist, Alex is a beacon of innovation. His groundbreaking software tackles a pervasive issue—#nurse breaks. Here's why it matters: When a #nurse assumes care of patients and takes on additional assignments during another #nurses break this is not just a workflow challenge; it's a risk to #patientsafety and legal liability to the nurse and the organization. As stated by a lawyer: "Knowingly and willing taking on an unsafe assignment is the definition of medical malpractice." I've witnessed firsthand how taking on an unsafe assignment even when relieving another nurse for a break compromises response times and exposes both nurses and facilities to potential failures to respond - aka bad outcomes and litigation. Under rules and regulations and codes of ethics, it's the duty and responsibility of all nurses to provide a safe environment for all patients and I am here to remind all #nurses that nothing supersedes the professional license of a provider ever! What Alex has created is revolutionary! It's not just about providing breaks; it's about ensuring continuity of care and mitigating risks - a gift to any organization. When there's a relief #nurse, work continues seamlessly, preventing delays and potential legal repercussions to the nurse and the organization. As a nurse with 23 years of critical care experience and former investigator for a board as well as a civil and administrative expert, I've seen the consequences of inadequate staffing and lack of breaks cost patients their lives and nurses their licenses. Alex's solution isn't just a win for nurses—it's a win for organizations. It saves thousands of dollars in legal fees and fines from governing bodies, improves #nurse satisfaction and retention, and, most importantly, enhances #patientcare and safety. Another HUGE thanks to Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL for connecting us, I love meeting trailblazing nurses. I'm thrilled to connect with Alex at #vive2024! #nurses are taking the helm, advocating for change, and making a real impact on healthcare outcomes and I am proud to stand amongst them. Let's continue this momentum and usher in a new era of #nursing excellence! We are done with asking to have a seat at the table and creating our own, come on over to the South Pavilion and visit us all!!! 💪🌟 Alex, I cannot wait to meet you in person at VIVE2024!!! #Nurses come and connect with us in the NURSE PAVILION and see how nurses are changing the face of healthcare!! #ISTANDWITHNURSES RescueRN Mick Hopkins RNegade Jenny Finnell Jean Ross, RN

Here here! Every single state would elevate the clinical outcomes of their populations by allowing Advanced practice nurses to practice at the top of their license without physician oversight…which is cost prohibitive, unnecessary, redundant, and a means of subversively undermining the work of the nurse. HERE HERE PK Scheerle, RN !!! #APRN #nursing

In 2021, leading nursing organizations, including the NLN, launched the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing to focus on its impact on nurses, patients, communities, and health care systems. As part of its work, the Commission invited two scholars — Dr. Dominique Tobbell of the University of Virginia and Dr. Patricia D’Antonio of the University of Pennsylvania — to prepare "The History of Racism in Nursing: A Review of Existing Scholarship," which delves deep into issues of structural and systemic racism. The report provides the context needed to understand the broad inequities that undergird the American health care system and lead to distrust among broad swathes of our population. It is designed to help nurses and nurse educators respond to those who do not want this history to live in the light. Read the report: https://bit.ly/48VD7VF #BlackHistoryMonth

Very exciting indeed - an important part of the story, not to be missed, is hearing an #intentionalrounding leading practice from the #CHRO - visiting the frontline teams. UMMS has prioritized becoming an #HRO for their system and this is one great example of how that filters down into action. LENS is a Vizient, Inc technology that creates local learning areas; gives voice to the frontline and promotes performance improvement collaboration - creating dynamic and healthy local #cultures because that is where the magic happens for the patients we serve. #patientsafety #performanceimprovement #localculture #leaderrounding
I make a point of visiting our member organizations in person. These visits allow me to see firsthand the patient-focused actions our team members are implementing at University of Maryland Medical Systems. University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center team members Chief Nursing Officer David Hunt and Director of Nursing Practice and Outcomes Jaime Van Allen highlighted their emphasis on consistency in care during my recent visit. Nurse Manager Brandi Caver, MSN, RN-BC discussed the unit’s Learning and Engagement System (LENS) Board, created to improve processes and foster collaboration, resulting in dynamic and unrivaled care for our patients.

Founder and CEO, Hello Eema | Nurse | Whole Health Innovation and Community Health Advocate | Experienced Pediatric Nurse Practitioner | PhD Student | Nursing Simulation Instructor | CPHQ - Quality and Safety Expert
Today I was given the opportunity to listen and learn from one of Nursing's greatest thought leaders - Dr. Jean Watson. Every #nurse learns about her theory of human caring in nursing school! She spoke to Nursing PhD and DNP students from Texas Woman's University about healthcare today and how the 10 Caritas processes can be incorporated in nurse's profession and discipline. The ANA beautifully interwove the principles in the most up to date definition of Nursing. Below are some key takeaways from today’s presentation: 1. Compassion for oneself is the foundation from which we can have compassion for others. As such, #transforminghealthcare is essential to create space for nurses to care for themselves and develop environments of healing. 2. If we focus on the problems, the problems will only get bigger! But if we pivot and focus on solutions, creative opportunities will abound! I could not help but get SUPER excited as this is at the heart of #innovation. 3. The heart and science of #Nursingcare honors human dignity. Recognizing individuals want to thrive (not just live!) must become essential to our clinical decision making. The meaning a person associates with their health (instead of a diagnosis alone) provides opportunity to live life more richly and nurses advocate for this! 4. How can #augmentedintelligence interweave the caritas principles into all aspects of planning for a healing environment, from the individual person to the health system level? Loved that this was brought up as it is an amazing, forward thinking perspective. #nursesonlinkedin

On average, 50% of a nurse's time is spent on indirect or non-patient care activities.* Our customers are saying that Vocera is transforming how they think about care coordination by connecting people with the technology they need to help support dynamic workflows, reduce cognitive burdens, and facilitate seamless communication. They’re also excited about the rich insights it provides, freeing up more time for nurses and helping to enhance patient care. It's essential that we continue to find ways to streamline processes for care teams as demands on their time continue to grow. . . . . *Douglas, S., Cartmill, R., Brown, R., Hoonakker , P., Slagle, J., Schultz Van Roy, K., Walker, J.
