As I sat down to ponder on today's post, I couldn't help but reflect on the power of connections and the impact we can collectively make on each other's lives. A dear friend of mine recently reached out seeking referrals for job opportunities in the field of chemical engineering after completing her B.Tech. Having witnessed the challenges she faced, I decided to leverage my network to assist her. I'm grateful to those who responded positively, offering referrals and potential opportunities. It got me thinking about the multitude of individuals on this platform and beyond who may be facing similar struggles with unemployment. Having been through that phase myself, I understand the emotional toll it takes. So here's a humble request to all my connections: If you come across someone in your network or beyond who is seeking employment, consider extending a helping hand. It doesn't have to be a massive commitment—just a simple referral, a word of encouragement, or a connection can make a world of difference. On this day, when many may have a bit of extra time, let's channel our collective energy towards making a positive impact. A small effort on your part could potentially reshape someone's career trajectory and positively influence their life and family. Feel free to tag individuals who might be in a position to assist, and let's create a ripple effect of support and generosity. Together, let's be the catalysts for change! #ProfessionalNetwork #CareerSupport #ReferralNetwork #PayItForward #JobOpportunities #CareerEmpowerment

“Isaiah, help - I got rejected because I applied to 2 positions at the same company… I applied to ThermoFisher two weeks ago and a hiring manager got in touch with me and I had my first interview…. But then a second hiring manager reached out about another job I applied to. I started talking to this second manager and they asked if I applied to any other positions there. I told them about the other job and the other hiring manager. Now, neither of the hiring managers will get back to me. What do I do?” This is what a PhD told me last week. I hear stories like this all the time. I heard a similar story from another PhD last month who applied to 5 jobs at Intel and after 2 different hiring managers found out about the competing roles, they both ghosted. This is why I recommend only applying to one job posting at a company at a time. Choose the best fit job and apply to it. Unless, of course, you’re talking to a hiring manager directly and they tell you to apply to multiple jobs. Applying to one job at a time at a company shows a clear and focused interest in a specific role. It tells the hiring manager that you've done your homework, understand where you can contribute, and are truly interested in that particular position. This can set you apart from candidates who appear to be indiscriminately applying to multiple roles, which can come off as lacking direction. It can also help you get hired faster in a competitive job market where others are shotgunning resumes and applying to everything they find online. In larger organizations, different departments or teams may handle hiring independently. If you apply to multiple jobs simultaneously, and hiring managers from different departments express interest, discovering that another team is also considering the same candidate can lead to confusion. This might prompt both parties to step back, concerned about internal competition or the impression that the candidate is not genuinely interested in their specific role but just any job. Have you applied to more than one job at a company only to be met with silence? Tell me in a comment. As a self-employed Gen Xer who has many friends looking for work or attempting career transitions, this sounds like everything terrible I've heard about lately. It's clear to me that online job postings are placed there because it's often a legal requirement (that may vary by state?), but in truth many applicants come in through someone they know. I keep staying busy because of my contacts. What do young people do if they don't have that network yet? Or older people whose networks aren't as strong as others? #employment #hiring #jobsearch #jobmarket #jobwoes

One of the best things about working in recruitment is you get to work with people multiple times at different points in their life and career. Applicants that we place multiple times in their career trajectory, applicants that go on to become hiring managers, hiring managers that return to us to hire for other profiles and skillsets or move on to other companies and need help with staffing up their teams there. With each re-engagement, we learn something new. It could be that someone bought their first home, has a baby on the way, crossed off a bucket list item, started a side gig or secured that certification they worked so hard toward. It's great to learn about their achievements and growth - both personal and professional and share mine. It's by far an aspect of the job I enjoy most. Will that be you someday? DM to learn how TEEMA can help hire for your teams or secure your next position. #Recruitmentlife #Talentacquisition
