Dear North Carolina Museum of Art, After conducting in – person surveying and gathering data, I have come to an evidence-based decision that the North Carolina Museum of Arts needs to increase engagement with park users. There is a high number of people that use the park but do not engage in the museum. The reasons for evaluation in this decision are assessed goals and objectives, improving product / organization, and to set future directions. The information source was a protocol consisting of a survey with multiple groups, questions, and locations. Potential areas of impact are physical space and participants. Lastly, two criteria associated with the decision are the percent of park users who engage with the museum and the annual number of park users.

"BE A CURATOR" You don't make a great museum by putting all the art in the world into a single room. That's a warehouse. What makes a museum great is the stuff that's not on the walls. Someone says no. A curator is involved, making conscious decisions about what should stay and what should go. There's an editing process. There's a lot more stuff off the walls than on the walls. The best is a sub-sub-subset of all the possibilities. Be a curator. Stick to what's truly essential. Pare things down until you're left with only the most important stuff. Then do it again. If art is subjective, how do we know when it is bad? This is a question to ponder while watching this video. The Museum of Bad Art exhibits these pieces which would otherwise have been lost to landfills. Since we live in a world of opposites, if there is good art then bad art exists too. But, how do we know bad art when we see it? Are there universal criteria which dictate what makes bad art, and if so, what are they? Who has the final say in any of this? Are museum labels essential to the art museum experience? While museums provide wall labels to guide, inform, and spark curiosity, you have the freedom to engage with them as you please. Whether you read every word, use them selectively, or skip them entirely, it's your call. But a label-free museum visit can actually be quite liberating. It allows your emotions, curiosity and personal connection to the artwork to take centre stage. By avoiding labels, you can form your own interpretations and indulge fully in all the sensory aspects, without distractions. Avoiding labels leaves room for curiosity and unanswered questions. It gives you the freedom to choose how you want to experience it. And lets the art speak for itself. In large museums or exhibitions with many artworks, reading every label can become overwhelming and tiring. Opting to skip labels can make the visit more relaxed and enjoyable. Ultimately, there's no right or wrong approach; the key is to engage in a way that feels right for you, at that moment. Have you ever done a label-free visit? Very thought-provoking post! Whenever I visit a museum for the first time, I always spend time with the piece by itself first - then I read the label. The context provided is an additional layer of knowledge; sometimes it makes me go back and look at the piece again with a new perspective, sometimes it doesn't. Labels are a great way to share data and objective information about the artworks on display, but art isn't just about objectivity. It is also about emotions, individual feelings, reactions, and experiences. (That being said, labels are extremely important texts in museums, and even if a visitor skips reading them, as is their individual prerogative, they should not be discounted for their role in helping shape an exhibition and providing knowledge to the public.)

Governance: What Do We Know, and How Do We Know It? Taiwan's art scene has been busy recently, with the establishment of private art museums on the one hand and the reopening of national museums. Looking at Taiwan from a perspective other than Taiwan, the people in society are happy. However, it is also because of these two major events that they have given rise to controversies between the two sides. When there is discussion, there is meaning, and this is in line with the objective of the cultural public sphere. But on one level, most Taiwanese are too conservative, and there is much room for improvement in their aesthetic perceptions. How is the enhancement of aesthetic perception related to self-governance? This is a significant issue.

What is Slow Art Day? Slow Art Day is an annual event that encourages participants worldwide to look at and discuss art slowly. I’ve been taking part (and encouraging others to do so!) since 2012. Over 1,500 museums and galleries on every continent, including Antarctica’s McMurdo Station, have participated in Slow Art Day. This year it takes place on Saturday 13 April. The idea is simple: look at a few works of art for 5-10 minutes each. You can do this on your own, with a group of friends or as part of an event at a museum. You can also take part online in a guided or recorded session. You can choose which artworks to look at or let yourself be guided by what the museum or venue has chosen. Some venues pick five pieces of art, others may focus on just one or two, while others will give yet more options. To find a venue taking part, go to the Slow Art Day website (link in comments).
