See you in a couple of hours. You don't need to ask my permission. → Want some days off? Sure, no problem. → Family commitments later? All good, I'll make sure the meeting is recorded and there is a way you can still contribute towards the outcome. → Wake up poorly? We've got you covered. A good leader in a positive work culture will not drive you to set hours, they will work to outcomes. A good leader in a positive culture will ensure you don't need to ask permission to be an adult. It's an interesting discussion, I agree with this for the major part. However, I believe that it also depends on the employees... We all know, not every employee who says they have a Doctor's appointment is telling the truth, and this simple doubt along with some negative past experiences of Managers, result in the degradation of such a positive work culture into a negative one.. Of course Employees should be given the benefit of doubt when it comes to health, but yeah, because some exploit this, others suffer too

While I whole-heartedly agree with this, the salient issue to address is: HOW? How do we convince Business Culture that their employees actually matter and that their happiness effects the productivity and retention of good workers? Example: In the last week I personally have been told by 2 separate C-Suite personages: "I am the ***(insert title here), do as I say or find another job" in relation to further clarifications and possible conflicts moving forward; "We pay them/you so you are required to do your it/your job". No further discussion was allowed whatsoever. Now, I've never been one to stand on ceremony. Titles mean next to nothing to me and I will speak my mind, but it gets exhausting having to run interference between unhappy contractors/Vendors/employees and the powers that be and manage my own dissatisfaction and unhappiness for the sake of company stability. This is rapidly pushing me towards leaving my current situation. The unfortunate thing is that these responses are used regularly on both employees and contractors, but also on actual Vendors. If we are going to work towards a better environment, what would be the material first steps in your opinion?

This seems geared towards white collar type jobs. The conversation always seemed centered around white or high level work. A nurse can't leave for a couple hours for a doctor appointment. Nor can a teacher. Can your nanny do this? Hmm? When I worked in a hospital, I was always happy to get pizza when we got it. Free fruit? Thank you. The FAANGs offered all this and more. Had ppl lined up all over the world wanting to work there. Wanna be FAANGs offered the same I mean. If you go to any of the top colleges, you'll see stuff like this and climbing walls and other stupid stuff. Why? Because the end users want them.

Challenge is when you’re managing a manufacturing type environment. Many of the employees are hourly front line employees that play a vital role in assisting the process forward. If they don’t show on time and leave early, downtime and delays can cost thousands of dollars. The outcome is x products per hour times number of hours, so set hours are required. I think this post is great but there is a huge sector that it doesn’t relate to. There are still ways to create a positive work culture, like pizza! 😉
