Today is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 🌍 Let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of this day, which aims to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and celebrate achievements. 💪 Let's also bring it as close to home as we can...we asked ourselves: What do we need to be aware of when it comes to poverty? In Canada, the gender income disparity remains a critical issue. Since 1976, women have consistently earned lower average incomes than men. In 2019, women's average income was $43,010, compared to $60,680 for men. Although progress has been made, there is still work to be done to bridge this gap. 👩🔬🙋♀️ Furthermore, it's crucial to acknowledge that certain groups face unique challenges. Indigenous women, racialized women, women with disabilities, immigrant women, single mothers, and senior women all experience varying degrees of income inequality. Together, we must strive for a more equitable society. 👩👧👦💼 Supporting initiatives like Women and Poverty in Canada is an opportunity to make a difference.
