The US Navy has announced a significant delay in the delivery of the future aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-80). According to the Navy's Fiscal Year 2025 budget documents, the delay is due to challenges related to material availability and industry/supply chain performance. Originally projected to be delivered in March 2028, the carrier will now be delivered in September 2029. Furthermore, the Navy has postponed the purchase of its next aircraft carrier, CVN-82, from Fiscal Year 2028 to Fiscal Year 2030. The delay has raised concerns about potential disruptions to the supplier base and workforce shortages. The Navy and shipbuilding executives have advocated for a consistent shipbuilding plan to allow suppliers to plan for future work. The delay in carrier delivery and potential workforce shortages have implications for the construction of other naval vessels, including nuclear-powered attack boats and nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. #USNavy developments regarding #AircraftCarrier #Enterprise #DeliveryDelay #Shipbuilding #SupplyChain #WorkforceShortages and #NavalVessels.

🦅🇺🇸🦅 In a recent development, the US Navy has adjusted its budget request, delaying the procurement of the next Gerald Ford-class aircraft carrier, CVN-82, from 2028 to 2030. This decision, diverging from the industry's preferred four-year shipbuilding cadence, stems from the need to navigate fiscal constraints imposed by the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023. Despite the shift, Navy officials are striving to minimize the impact on the shipbuilding industry through strategic industrial base investments and a consistent flow of advanced procurement funding. The Navy's plan includes significant investments in both carrier and submarine industrial bases, and a robust budget for mid-life maintenance on existing carriers. As the shipbuilding industry continues its recovery amidst challenges such as inflation and workforce retention, the Navy's adjustments highlight the delicate balance between fiscal responsibility and maintaining a resilient industrial base. #NavyBudget #Shipbuilding #DefenseIndustry #MilitaryProcurement https://lnkd.in/gj6A4BhE

Did you know the US Army Corps of Engineers has projects in Norway? The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District is working closely with U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa, the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency (Forsvarsbygg) and the U.S. Embassy Oslo to deliver roughly $200 million in planned projects at the Royal Norwegian Air Force’s Rygge Air Station in Norway! Naval Maintenance Vocational Consortium (NMVC) Founder, Maritime Workforce Leader. SBIR Phase III Technology Integrator.
To support the 200,000 days of outsourced work mentioned in the article, Maritime Maintenance University, established onboard former Emory S. Land-class submarine tender, USS McKEE (AS-41), could take on a portion of this work and use the work as training opportunities for MMU Sailors and industry partners. With MMU, the Navy gains trained Sailors and a rotatable pool of parts. Industry gains a workforce trained to the same standards to perform US Navy maritime work. From the article: When it comes to outsourcing, William Houston said the Navy farms out about 100,000 days of work across all four yards. This work could involve refurbishing valves and pumps, performing structural repairs, or anything else private companies have the expertise to do. Houston said he plans to double that to 200,000 days of work by FY26, freeing up shipyard staffs to do what they’re uniquely qualified to do: plan and manage complex repairs on a nuclear-powered boat, as well as conduct test and certification activities.
