Buildings including Bolton town hall and the central library could be warmed by low carbon heating after the council secured £11m to develop an innovative heat network. The project would use a heat pump to extract warmth from sewers that run beneath the town centre. Sewers are warmed by heat from water used in washing machines, showers, baths and kitchens. The cutting-edge project would capture this wasted warmth and distribute it to nearby buildings. The heat network is expected to save 123,000 tonnes of carbon emissions over 40 years, the equivalent of taking 15,000 cars off the road, a 75% reduction in emissions. 👉 https://bit.ly/47PaacB

New Zealand produces 131,000 cubic meters of excess concrete every year. That's enough to build 8 Sky Towers! This is a huge waste of resources, and that's where we come in. We upcycle this high-quality wet excess concrete into our block range, providing a comprehensive circular solution for the construction industry. Our solution is low carbon and zero waste, and it's made up of 4 key elements: ♻️ Accredited Product Stewardship ♻️ Low Carbon Concrete Products ♻️ Designed for Deconstruction ♻️ Buyback Guarantee This week, we'll take you each of these elements and show how we're lead with sustainability in mind. #enviroconnz #capturingconcreteexcess #concreteblocks #lowcarbon #zerowaste #circculareconomy #sustainability #productstewardship

Sustainable drainage schemes (SuDS) are popping up everywhere if you know where to look. And now, the mayor of London has launched a retrofit SuDS map to highlight and celebrate them. 🌍 Holly Smith, Greater London Authority surface-water-flooding project manager tells us more. This live, interactive site shows which schemes have been fitted, where. It’s colour-coded to show schools, highways, social housing, parks, wetlands and river-restoration schemes. Filters can narrow your search to find tree-planting schemes, attenuation storage, bioretention, wetlands, green roofs, filter strips and other specific SuDS. Whether you live in London, work in water management or are delivering SuDS in other regions, the map creates a snapshot to highlight where and how quickly schemes are being added across the capital. From wetlands to rain planters, each SuDS is helping to manage and slow the way water flows across the capital. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e8ripgsu #SuDS #SustainableDrainage

Heat Neutralizer 🔥 Blocking heat for 35 years with insulation coatings for energy savings, reduce CO2, CUI, UHI & cooler, safer spaces. Cool roofs to hot pipes to fire protection with Super Therm® & HPC®.
Fantastic cool roof initiative by the SA Government and Nick Champion 👏 In what seems to be a first in Australia, dark colours to be banned on new residential builds at the government run Playford Alive Housing Development with the goal to building cool communities that are climate resilient and reduce the urban heat island effect. Cooler roofs are on average 4°C cooler; dark roofs are 4°C hotter. The community will embrace this change over time as the identification of cool roofs and their urban and environmental benefits are finally adopted mainstream. This goes well with the City of Adelaide Cool Roof Trial which preliminary data has shown significant benefits to a cooler urban environment with Super Therm: https://lnkd.in/g9eTPFhS The right thermal insulation coatings can also be retrofitted ensuring the entire community is protected for the future with the important asset being the roof and walls to do more than reflect light but block the infrared heat. SA government is leading the way with simple but powerful policy to help families both mitigate climate change and adapt to the raising heat. Banning dark roofs is a no cost policy, that helps keep money in the pockets of every day families that would have otherwise gone to energy corporations as both energy prices and demand for energy to power air conditioners and fans soar. In a time where many are struggling to put food on the table and turn the lights on, I hope this is policy that both sides of the political spectrum, including journalism, can embrace and speak positively of. As other states use this as a template to craft their own similar policies, I would add that it would be interesting to explore if roof replacements on existing properties could also be included.
