This week's Interns & Co-ops of NJIT student spotlight, Makayla Clarke, who interned at Whirlpool Corporation, shares “the most rewarding part of my internship experience can be summarized in one word: impact. Throughout my time in the internship program, I had the privilege of making a significant and tangible impact within the organization. This aspect of the internship was profoundly fulfilling and enriching on multiple levels. First and foremost, seeing the direct and measurable results of my work was incredibly rewarding. Whether it was a project that improved operational efficiency, a recommendation that led to cost savings, or a solution that enhanced customer satisfaction, I could witness the concrete outcomes of my efforts. This not only validated my skills and knowledge but also highlighted the practical relevance of the work I was doing.” #NJIT #NJITCDS

What advice do you have for students considering a volunteer experience? Our contest winner says “For students considering a volunteer experience, my advice is embedded in the transformative power of commitment and resilience. Firstly, commit wholeheartedly to the cause you are volunteering for. Passion and dedication are motivations for meaningful impact, so choose an organization that aligns with your interests. Welcome the journey with a perspective that values the process as much as the results. There may be moments of frustration or challenges where immediate outcomes are not satisfactory, but don’t be disappointed. Persistence is key. Your efforts contribute to a larger picture. Additionally, take the opportunity to network and expand personal connections. Building relationships within the organization and the broader community not only improves your experience but also serves as a useful asset for personal and professional growth. Actively promote the organization, share your experiences, encourage others to join, and influence positivity. Embrace the learning curve, celebrate small victories, and recognize that your efforts boost the impact of your volunteer journey.”

This week's Interns & Co-ops of NJIT student spotlight, interned at Thorlabs ,Samantha Montalbine, shares: “Just go for it. It is as simple as that. Walking into my internship for the first time, I felt so small and confused in that large facility. But, I stayed confident, took notes, asked questions, and left with more knowledge than I ever thought possible to know so early on in my college career.”

This week’s Interns & Co-ops of NJIT student spotlight, Ryan Eaton at Weber Display & Packaging shares: “Students should search for internships sooner than they think. If I had searched for an internship even in my first summer, I realize now that I would have probably gotten one. There are lots of companies out there willing to mentor you! Don’t doubt your skills, even if all you know is entry-level Python and Java, there’s probably an internship out there for you in which you will learn a lot and make some money for paying off college too!”
