Most restaurants have a comprehensive and varied wine list; they might have a growing gin list but they probably have a fairly rudimentary beer list. I think the time has come for that to change. The craft beer market has matured significantly over the last 10-15 years. Supermarkets devote whole fridges to craft beer, with similar levels of shelf frontage to wine. On a recent visit to my local supermarket I counted over 150 different beer varieties within the craft beer fridge. Consumers have embraced this variety and are expecting to see similar levels of choice in restaurants. People who describe themselves as craft beer drinkers are more likely to also describe themselves as “foodies”, meaning they seek out interesting new flavours and eating experiences. They are also more likely to eat out at restaurants, tending to have a higher disposable income. Put simply, they are a great target market. So let's get more good beer into restaurants. Have you encountered any particularly good restaurant beer lists? Let me know in the comments below. And if you're a restaurant owner looking to do more with beer but don't know where to start, drop me a note - I'd love to help you write a beer list, train your staff and establish relationships with suppliers. #restaurant #hospitality #craftbeer

It doesn't take an MBA from Duke to know that every hour spent on beverage club administration and operations takes an hour away from your customers. When I build business cases for beverage clubs, I always start by helping businesses understand the true cost of their club operations. These are some of the best questions to ask: ⏱️ Every month, how much time do you spend on club planning and procurement unrelated to normal operations? 🙋🏾♀️ How much time do you spend per month on club customization, customer service, and order management? 📊 What portion of your time is spent on club is related to club promotion and marketing to increase membership? 💰 How much incremental revenue and margin could you drive by reallocating that time to customer engagement, club marketing, and sales? Every extra hour spent planning, administering, and operating your beverage club takes away from the time you spend selling to customers. ClubStack helps beverage business leaders focus on what matters. In today's dynamic consumer engagement world, how is your business spending it's time? If you'd like to spend less time on beverage club administration and more time making money, feel free to let me know how we can help. #beverageclub #wineclub #beerclub #whiskeyclub #clubstack #wine #beer #whiskey #spirits #beveragebusiness #sommsays

Here is some fascinating data. Contrary to popular assumptions, wine lists in the US are not getting smaller! We surveyed over 40,000 restaurants in the upper-casual space to see how wine list sizes have trended over the last three years. This report is another classic example of how our data can provide tangible evidence of what is happening with beverage industry customers when the opposite is seen as facts without proof. What else are you assuming incorrectly? If you are not working with us, you should. Your competitors probably do. We are the beverage platform that best manages your on-premise business. We help spirits companies, wineries, wine groups, national breweries, distributors, importers, and non-alcoholic beverage companies. About time I shared some more CGA data for the on trade, as we start the run in to what will hopefully be a fantastic Christmas trading period, although we’re off to a shaky start given the train cancellations planned for the festive period. So a quick category review; beer remains the biggest winner with wine gaining share from cider. Premium vodka continues to grow at the expense of standard vodka and rum is the top performer. Stout sees gains across key metrics. So to summarise, beer is now 50.3% of the market, cider is 8%, spirits make up 28.5% leaving wine and champagnes with 12.5% In terms of premise, pubs are the biggest winners with food pubs gaining most share, other food led segments alongside late night channels, casual dining and restaurants lose out. #LWCdrinks #ontrade #hospitality #pubs #bars #restaurants

Not having a branded beer for your restaurant, hotel, resort or event venue is a HUGE lost opportunity! I’m meeting quite a few restaurant owners / managers as well as people running high end resorts and not many of them has a branded house beer which is a great pity. First of all, your customers LOVE to have a drink product branded to you. Our customer Juho Saralehto told that he sells their house beer to almost every customer before they even order their menu and drink pairings. It’s not only a pure margin upside but it gives the customer your brand in a physical form which is powerful way to leave a mark. Other big driver is that when your customers post in social media, read Instagram, about their experience in your restaurant/resort, they want to include your logo and brand in the picture (let’s be honest, your place is HOT so it’s value for THEM) and not many restaurant have their logo in an easy place to have in your customer’s food or drink pic. Our way of helping restaurants to do this is to have six standard flavors created for food-pairing that we can re-brand for your restaurant without starting fee or minimum commitment. You can buy a case and see how your customers like it. Our newest customer for house beer is Dagmar Bistro & Wine Bar where I just delivered their first beers this week. And the reaction from Annamari (🥲🥲) told that we are on point with the branded beer approach 😊🍻 So if you don’t buy branded beer to your restaurant from us, buy it from the next craft brewery close to you! #dogood #dogoodbrew #brandedbeer #housebeer #beerpairing #branding #marketing
