Hey everyone! 😊 I wanted to share a little journey I've been on over the past year, and I'm feeling pretty great about where I've ended up. 🚀 A year ago, I was struggling with a few things – consistency, finding my career focus, battling sleep deprivation, and trying to distance myself from toxic friendships. But guess what? I decided to invest in myself and give myself six months to turn things around. Here's what I did: 🗺️ I planned out a roadmap for the next 6 months. 🚀 I explored various opportunities to really hone in on my true calling. 📚 I committed 2 hours every day to upskilling and learning. 🙌 I practiced affirmations to boost my self-worth. 🌟 I started building my personal brand. ✌️ And, I let go of things and people that were holding me back. The result? I am attracting the right mindset and the right people into my life. It's incredible how betting on yourself can make all the difference. 😄 Now, I'm genuinely happy with where I am going. There's no turning back; it's onwards and upwards from here. I don't blame life anymore for having just a handful of close people and no time for partying. All the unnecessary stuff is out of my life, leaving me with my loved ones, my goals, and the beauty of life itself. 🌅 So, remember, you can either blame life or see every challenge as an opportunity for personal growth. I am a failure! It's okay to admit that at times, we feel like we're failing in our careers. I've certainly been there. Many times! From setting really high standards at 20, 25, and for my 30's. I always aimed to be the best, the most hard-working, with top achievements. I never wanted to be good, I wanted to be REALLY good! At one point, I was working 17-hour days. Yes, I know... and with that, my self-worth always felt very tied to my professional successes, and if things didn't align with the expectations I'd set, it felt like I was failing not just in my career but in my life. In 2023, I made a conscious decision to break free from this mindset, and I have never been happier! I changed jobs, and reinvested my time. I reinvested my time in being a better partner to my husband-to-be, in being a better friend, I reconnected with my dad, I rediscovered my love for running (setting a personal record!), and even welcomed a little sausage dog into my life (isn't he the cutest thing?). I discovered hobbies I genuinely enjoy, even if I'm really bad at some of them (like playing the ukulele) - and that's okay too. Today, I am thrilled to be part of an amazing team at Sea Digital that share my vision and values. Remember, you are exactly where you need to be. This time of the year can be frustrating if you feel lost, stuck, or uncertain about what comes next. "I don't want to talk about 2024!" a brand new client confessed. "Everyone is buzzing about setting goals and planning for the new year, which can be straight-up irritating!" Yes, it's okay if you don't have plans yet. Personal challenges might be taking over. Perhaps you want to take one day at a time or can't see past the holidays. If you find yourself wishing for a vision but can't seem to see it despite extensive thinking, you must recognise that various obstacles might obstruct your view of the future. It's not a lack of knowledge; it's the lens you're using. Imagine a wall blocking your view to the next step, creating a sense of limbo, confusion, and darkness. On the other side of that wall lies a happier, more confident version of yourself, but we must first overcome that roadblock. The "wall" is the sum of our limiting beliefs, self-sabotage patterns, and societal expectations, manifesting as imposter syndrome, avoidance, anxiety, and more. We all have our unique kind of wall, made with our unique pattern of bricks. Of course, sometimes we must also navigate external circumstances, such as issues within a company or with a line manager. But most of the time, the key is to examine that wall blocking our view - doing it brick by brick and understanding what prevents us from seeing a clear and bright vision. I saw a great reminder on here earlier (and promptly forgot who posted it): You miss a 100% of the shots you don’t take. Lending itself so well to what my life in the last 15+ years, and even more so in the last 4 years and specifically last 6 months has been like - moving countries (almost on a whim), switching from entrepreneurship to employment (and back), changing industries (completely), growing and nurturing (so many) teams (and a baby!), moving cities, changing jobs, getting comfortable with quitting (jobs, relationships - anything that no longer serves me), and getting real good at understanding my boundaries, and strengths and superpowers. None of it would happen without taking a shot in the first place - leaping in, or leaping away from, and trusting that it will work out. Did it always work well? No. Have I learned something each time? Oh yes. Would I change anything? Not really - it's all been in service of something, all a part of learning and growth and progression (not perfection!). Let's not live our lives in fear people - it's far too short! So, take that shot, do the thing that scares you the most - feel the fear and do it anyway! The chances are that once one door closes, a new, bigger, more welcoming and better oiled door appears on the horizon, waiting for you to walk through. August is typically a month when you have time to have a good hard look at your life and resolve to make some changes. Stop and think. When did you last take time to consider what drives you to grow personally and professionally? How often do you find yourself being redundant while expecting a different result? Setting time aside at the beginning of a new month to reflect on our feelings and behaviour is a powerful habit for driving change and effecting personal growth. Regular self reflection helps you: ✔️ Identify areas for change ✔️ Develop a new skill ✔️ Improve and perfect on what you’ve been doing ✔️ Increase your efficiency ✔️ Reduce stress and anxiety ✔️ Understand your core values and work towards achieving them ✔️ Support making better decisions ✔️ Improve relationships Whether you’re intention is personal reflection to aid professional development, or helping others reflect, asking the right questions is a good place to start. Note down simple questions : 1. How would I rate the previous month out of ten? 2. Did I achieve my goals from last month? 3. Did anything get in the way of me achieving my best this month? 4. What could I do differently to help me achieve my goals? 5. How can I spend my time better? 6. What are 3 things I’m grateful for? By making an effort to reflect beginning of each new month, the process becomes more intuitive each time. You’ll be able to judge your improvements from each period to the next, and make adjustments to suit your needs.
