According to recent news reports, the Indian government may allocate ₹6,000 crore in the 2024 budget to support advanced ultra-supercritical (AUSC) thermal power plants. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency and significantly reduce carbon emissions compared to conventional coal-based power plants. BHEL, in collaboration with NTPC and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), has spearheaded the R&D efforts for AUSC technology, which operates at higher steam temperatures of around 710-720°C compared to the 540-600°C used in current technologies. This advancement results in a 10-15% reduction in CO2 emissions. A High Temperature Spin Test Rig will be established to assess the performance of nickel-based superalloy rotors, crucial for AUSC plants. Supported by the Department of Science & Technology, this facility will validate the design and ensure the reliability of these advanced turbines under operational conditions. An 800 MW Technology Demonstration Plant is proposed to be set up at NTPC's Sipat site in Chhattisgarh. This plant will showcase the advanced operational parameters and environmental benefits of AUSC technology, potentially making it the world's most efficient coal-fired power plant with about 20% lower CO2 emissions compared to traditional sub-critical plants. This project will mark a significant milestone in the technological advancement of the Indian industry, driving progress in cleaner thermal power and highlighting the capabilities of indigenous development. #EnergyTransition #CleanCoal #BHEL #Budget2024

Incremental Efficiency Gain Does Reduce CO2. Delhi Ambient 52 Deg C Or At Rajasthan 56 Deg C Reached This Summer. 178 Sunstroked Deaths In A Day Made Delhi Cremination Ghats Crowded Like Covid 19 Days. This Is Only Aroubd Mid June 24. Green House Gas ( CO2 ) Needs A Technology Carbon Capture & Storage For Possiblly Approx 80 Large Thermal Units Of 600 MW Average Capacity In Country Itself. High Steam Temp 800 Deg C Are In Opeartion In Many Countries Since 1980.
