High performer is like a shark in a fish tank. They are relentless, competitive and put team's goals over ego-seeking opportunities. So how do we find them in the first place, as you scale your growth metrics, especially when the market is challenging and motivate your best performers? As a current Account Executive, I have co-hired 20+ AEs in the last 2 years and articulated 3 common patterns in this LinkedIn article that are critical in hiring an AE for the Enterprise Cloud space. 1. They ditch the 30-60-90 day plan and enforce a 4 Week-To-Field period instead, where they quantify to an ICP level, the metrics, performance standards and learning goals in this period. - Week 1: Hands on territory - Week 2: Prospecting and "a million mocks" - Week 3: Real discovery calls with DQ'd leads - Week 4: Real discovery calls with real prospects (supervised) Keeping reps in the classroom for 90 days means you don't realize: - People learn by doing, not in the classroom - The learning starts upon contact with customer 2. They quantify their performance on a weekly basis and REVERSE ENGINEER their goals into an activity plan that seamlessly fits their INDIVIDUAL highest conversation rate metrics into their accounts. For example, this is what I do in my current role -> "My TARGET is 21 qualified opportunities to close every month I know that my conversion rate over a few running quarters is around 40-60% from analyzing my opportunities to discovery sessions and building ROI use cases. So I know I need to have ATLEAST 45 - 50 meetings scheduled in order to hit my goal. Factoring in a 20% MARGIN OF ERROR, I aim for at least 60 meetings. This way, I'd always be able to forecast to a HIGH PROBABILITY whether or not I was going to hit my target in advance. 3. They know the company's product category inside out and seamlessly INDIVIDUALIZE the company's vision. Here's how I demonstrated my product knowledge and CLOSED the Sales Manager through my in-depth research in one of my interviews. "Your firm's vision is to help businesses incorporate security features into client's native cloud architecture very quickly even if they don’t have tons of data and without the need to hire a data scientist. In my research, you started with a horizontal model where you were serving just about anyone and eventually found product-market-fit in the AWS and GCP environments' tech stack in the large SMB space in verticals like Healthcare, Finance, Manufacturing, and so forth where there’s a lot of manual data entry involved. Your cloud native security optimization tools are growing very fast with a GTM strategy that revolves around generating outbound lead flow from content-based marketing and a strong nurture program as a back-end." In short, these characteristics are very critical to articulate with a high degree of certainty that your next hired AE is going to ramp to the President's Club at your organization at a record speed. #AEhiring #Salesmanagers

Back in April 2021 I googled highest paying sales roles and came across SaaS and never looked back. Got my first full sales cycle gig in July 2021 after being rejected by 100+ companies since I had no prior SaaS sales experience. I applied for an SDR role at Hevo Data but convinced the team to interview me for an AE role. Hevo Data solves complex data engineering problems by automating data replication for mid-market and enterprise organizations. For someone with a literature and a music degree, that is another world.
