At Pearson we are committed to supporting schools across the UK and Internationally in projects which explore #curriculum #innovation, especially where centres recognise that the needs of learners are not being met through current learning opportunities.
One such project involved Samuel Whitbread Academy, and the launch of a Higher Project Qualification (#HPQ) focused on the study of #BlackHistory.
Year 9 students were given a rich, purposeful and personal opportunity to study historical events, people and stories centred around #blackhistory, and were tasked with identifying a connection between themselves and the history of black people, in a wide range of topics from #sport to #STEM.
The programme, which continues beyond the pilot year, ensured the purposeful study of #blackhistory was part of the a #curriculum serving the schools students, where their school #values prioritise #equality and #diversity.
#Schools interested in exploring HPQs, providing learners opportunity to study #blackhistory beyond the #curriculum, or simply interested to read the case study, can follow the link below:

Interestingly, the school received an #Ofsted inspection during the pilot, and a #deepdive took place into the #History department, who included the #HPQ in their report and judgement of the school.
