Working as an employee in a multinational corporation would make it difficult to meet and speak with the Group's CEO. This, however, is not the case at Decathlon . Last week, exactly on Wednesday 13 September 2023, Michel Aballea, the ex-CEO of Decathlon Group, accepted an invitation from Decathlon Thailand to meet with roughly 30 teammates. Michel was the CEO of Decathlon Group for 8 years (2015-2022), after which he stepped down and took several duties on the Board, as well as advicing and couching some Reginal and Country Leaders. I was one of the Decathlon Thailand teammates who were given this exceptional opportunity to attend the meeting with him. In fact, rather than a typical "meeting, it was an inspirational and motivational talk. Almost 3 hours of exchanges on "Empowering the Entrepreneurial Mindset" and other related topics, such as failure, success, vision, strategy, management, leadership, accountability, communication, values, efficiency, culture, and of course, sports, as well as some non-work side stories about family, favorite books and passions. Throughout the pitch, the ex-CEO took time to carefully consider our questions, most of them are "thoughtful" questions. His answers would change our working perspective and serve as a true source of motivation and inspiration for many of us who have played functional and vital roles in the company. As I mentioned at the beginning, it is an outstanding culture at Decathlon where the management is easily accessible. More than the position, we are teammates playing sports on the same playground. And above all, we are humans.

Today, we celebrated Vivek Raman Iyer and 𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐫 at House of Pops for winning two significant accounts - One Padel club in Dubai and one Ladies Beach club in Abu Dhabi. Their persistence and refusal to take 'no' for an answer led to a substantial increase in our sales, all under the leadership of Sankar Nair. Regularly highlighting our team’s efforts can amplify their motivation and reinforce the idea that every step forward, no matter how small, is a part of our journey to success. To all entrepreneurs and leaders in the F&B industry, let's commit to celebrating our teams' victories more frequently. Proud2BeJYSK‼️ Just coming home from the capital city of Sweden… September is always something quite special at JYSK, as we always kick off the new fiscal year and presenting our new business plan to our +300 leaders in Sweden & Finland. #JYSK This year was a bit extra special for me, as I chose to completely forgo PowerPoint for the first time in favor of delivering a longer speech to all my great JYSK colleagues at the year's kick-off. It was all about people and leadership 👥 Among thousand of words…🗣️ 1️⃣“Dear Finland, Dear Sweden, Dear RecordBreakers,You look awesome….Im so happy to have this opportunity to talk to all of you, and my happiness is running inside me, when I see all of you in the blue shirt. This is awesome, this is fantastic, this is JYSK” 2️⃣ “Leadership is this little word that means so much for so many people, and great Leadership is about you, me, and us. It is about being Leader, Coach and communicator, right?” 3️⃣ “What we do today, we can measure tomorrow…..What we learn from tomorrow, we can use to build a stronger team, a stronger result and better future for everyone in JYSK…” 4️⃣”JLiP is a true trust builder, bigger than Tower Bridge, bigger than London Eye, bigger than Titanic. So should I give one and only one piece of good advice about leadership, I will say “JYSK Do it”. Dare to do it “JLiP” and remember it start with TRUST”. 5️⃣ “Dear JYSKers & colleagues I hope we all will go out in the world and build tons of trust now, just say it, say it to each other. We can do it, I can do it, Just say it: We want to build “Stronger Leadership Teams” in the future. I want to be a great leader and we will do it for us. It not about what JYSK can do for us, but what I can do for JYSK and our future.” 6️⃣ “So, let's agree to say out loud, that leadership is about you, me, and everyone around us. Leadership is about the good and the bad, leadership is about creating a direction and not about creating uncertainty, leadership is about creating joy and not sadness”… And 2000 words more….🌱 Standing at the "lectern" and looking out over the “Blue ocean” of JYSK shirts gave me the feeling of being alive. It gave me a rush that added 10 more years to my motivation account. I had the opportunity of listening to Mr. Vinay Golikeri, MD of Bacardi, speak on Why and How to Build a Global Career. He provided some insightful information about the success and culture of the firm. He talked about the 3F’s : 1. Fearless - being bold and trying new things. 2. Family - care for one another and hold each other accountable. 3. Founder - entrepreneurial spirit. The major takeaways were •The top management at Bacardi is always focused on creating a legacy for the brand. This means investing in the long term and making decisions that will benefit the company for years to come. •One of the key takeaways from the talk was Bacardi's focus on its people. They don't call their employees "employees" but Primos, which is Spanish for "brothers" or "cousins." •He emphasised on when you join a company it’s not about the job but the impact you leave and to give the brand in a better shape to the next generation and put the brand in a strong place. •Breadth of experience gives you richness. •He talked about the cycle of culture ,purpose & strategy and evaluation.
