I was invited to speak at the ETRetail Shopfwd Summit 2024 in Mumbai, where I had the privilege to speak amongst other industry leaders. Through insightful conversations, we discussed trends and issues that are driving growth in the fashion and accessories industry - one of such trends is the focus on sustainability. With the rise of a more eco-conscious and socially aware consumer base, the industry is preparing itself to adapt to these requirements and ensure that our products don’t become a burden on the environment. I continued to emphasise how since the very beginning, committing to eco-friendly practices has always been a passion of mine. This dedication is exemplified in our upcoming lineup, "𝐌𝐚𝐚𝐭𝐢", where we repurpose factory waste and materials like old rubber tires into stylish bags. This approach uniquely adds to our belief that fashion can be both beautiful and sustainable. This flexibility has propelled our growth across fragmented market segments, supported by heightened consumer engagement through social media and in-store experiences. Our journey towards sustainability is a collaborative effort, and we are grateful for the support and enthusiasm of our partners, customers, and fellow industry leaders. Jamshed K Daboo and 𝐌𝐫. Sandeep Pal, discussing topics that shape our industry's trajectory. I discussed how product innovations help consumers choose from various options and provide us with insights into market dynamics. For instance, consider the classic example of Saas, Bahu, and Beti—a framework that guides our approach. Saas typically favours traditional retail experiences, while Beti prefers online shopping, and Bahu finds her balance in malls. This diversity informs our product range, tailored for different needs from travel essentials to office chic, reflecting our deep consumer insights. At Baggit, we're actively exploring and adopting similar innovations to enhance the ease and enjoyment of our customers' shopping experiences. As I reflect on this summit, I'm excited about the future strides in our industry. Connecting with fellow attendees and speakers who share a profound understanding of our field has been both inspiring and insightful. Reflecting on my journey as a woman entrepreneur, I'm reminded of the lessons that have shaped me into the leader I am today. Here are some thoughts I'd like to share with all the women leaders out there: 1. Continuous Self-Improvement: Every day, I dedicate myself to learning and growing. Understanding my flaws, observing my behavior, and striving for improvement have been crucial to my personal and professional development. It's a commitment I uphold dearly. 2. Embracing Mistakes: Mistakes are inevitable, they're what make us human and fuel our growth. I've learned to forgive myself for missteps while never forgetting the lessons they teach. Each mistake has been a stepping stone toward my success. 3. Navigating Challenges: In leadership, you can't control every situation. The universe unfolds as it will, and our role is to maintain a clear mind amidst uncertainty. When faced with crises, I've learned to step back, breathe, and approach challenges with a calm demeanor. It's essential to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on setbacks. 4. Self-Care and Prioritization: As women, we often prioritize others before ourselves, whether as mothers, wives, or daughters. While selflessness is admirable, neglecting oneself isn't sustainable. I cherish the value of self-care and self-recreation. Taking time for myself allows me to recharge, gain self-awareness, and ultimately contribute more effectively to my responsibilities. 5. Personal Fulfillment: Lastly, I believe in the power of pursuing passions and nurturing happiness within. Understanding oneself deeply is where true potential lies. By exploring our inner strengths and interests, we empower ourselves to lead with authenticity and drive positive change. Let's continue to empower ourselves as women leaders. My kind of 'sound of music!' The click of the needle, the whirr of the bobbin winding, the hum of the motor, the pedalling sound, that's the kind of orchestration that happens in our factory! From just one tailor ( our very first masterji) to 750 plus employees and factory workers, my Baggit family has been growing in every way, in numbers, with respect to their passion, creativity, and ideas. This Labour Day, I want to thank each one of them for standing by me through thick and thin especially during the most difficult times of the pandemic.
