Automated mobile robots (AMR) began dominating large warehouse operations such as Amazon over a decade ago. A few years ago, they moved out onto the public right-of-way as Public-area Mobile Robots (PMR) for last-mile deliveries. What started with Starship Technologies is now over a hundred varieties. Now, humanoid robots are being tested in warehouses. Klutzy now. That won't last long. https://lnkd.in/gjPQUKSY? How long until ambulatory robots with graspers (fundamentally humanoid in form and function) are deployable (beyond trials) within the public right-of-way? Likely, before 2030. ThrillingTechTrends - TTT #5 - Today with lots of robots: 🤖 🤖 🤖 Amazon has already deployed > 750.000 robots for its warehouse operations across the 185 fulfilment centres worldwide. 🌎🤩 There are 2 new ways in using robots to assist employees & deliver for customers: 1️⃣ Amazon has started to test to a humanoid robot, called Digit, in its warehouses. Made by Agility Robotics, the bipedal robot can grasp and lift objects, and it will start by shifting empty tote boxes 📦 as Amazon continues to explore new ways of automating its warehouses. Amazon says Digit is designed to "work collaboratively" with employees, not replace them. 2️⃣ The new robotic system called Sequoia. Like Digit, this has been designed to move goods around various warehouses and alter Amazon’s containerized methods. Currently, large yellow storage racks are used to move various items around in Amazon warehouses. These include cubbies where items can be packed or removed by employees. While a human workforce is required, these racks use autonomous drives that move them along. Sequoia differs in that it implements storage racks that are filled with blue or yellow totes. The new system uses arms to pick up totes before taking them to an employee’s workstation. As with Digit, Sequoia frees up human resources. ⏩️ Warehousing offers the perfect combination of repetitiveness and menial work, coupled with a lack of standardization and a lack of uniformity of things handled. For companies operating fulfillment centers with a wide product mix or fluctuating demand, the flexibility of humanoid robots 🤖 could deliver a solution to the ongoing labor and skills crisis in the logistics industry. For example, humanoid robots could be dropped into the workforce during seasonal peaks in demand without requiring substantial operational changes, unlike other automated technologies where large changes to warehouse workflows are required. And humanoid warehouse robots will eventually cost only $3 per hour to operate. What is your opinion about humanoids in warehouses ? Stay tuned with me for more thrilling tech!💥 Source: Amazon ♻️ REPOST and teach your network something new. #ThrillingTechTrends #Technology #Innovation #Future

🤖 Otto Group partners with Boston Dynamics to revolutionize logistics operations. 🤝🌐 The strategic agreement involves deploying Boston Dynamics' Spot and Stretch robots across more than 20 facilities within the next two years, starting with Hermes Fulfilment DE. This marks the first enterprise-scale deployment of both robots and aims to enhance safety, operational efficiency, and address labor shortages in specific warehouse tasks. 🏭📦 Spot, the versatile four-legged robot, will handle tunnel inspections, predictive maintenance, and data collection for machine learning models, ensuring enhanced safety protocols and improved operational insights. Meanwhile, Stretch, designed for heavy package handling, will begin unloading containers in 10 facilities next year, scaling up operations by 2025. 👷♂️💡 Moreover, Otto Group is dedicated to upskilling its workforce through a comprehensive training program focused on robotics and AI. Over 10,000 warehouse workers have already participated in TechUcation virtual courses, supplementing on-site training to shape a digitally empowered workforce ready for the future. #LogisticsInnovation #RoboticsInBusiness #OttoGroup #BostonDynamics #FutureOfWork
