As someone who grew up playing competitive golf, the Ryder Cup has always been for me, the biggest spectacle, even factoring in the Major tournaments. There is just something about this event that is so captivating. I just wanted to highlight one of many unbelievable moments from this weekends Ryder Cup in Rome. Tommy Fleetwood stepped up and hit a Driver to the middle of the Green on the 16th to secure victory in that match, with only really a tiny landing spot to keep it on the green. The commentator mentions the easy shot is bailing left, but he went straight at it despite his opponent Rickie Fowler already hitting it in the water. It got me thinking, do we all have strategies in place for our day to day lives to enable us to succeed, even more so when we are up against it and the challenge might seem too big? We all have moments in our lives where we face challenges and pressure to perform, and the workplace is no exception. But it's important to remember that, with the right strategies in place, you can manage and even thrive under pressure. 1. Firstly, take a moment to recognise the pressure and accept it. This will help you to stay focused and stop feeling overwhelmed. 2. Next, break down the challenge into manageable chunks and prioritise the tasks. This will help you stay organised and on track. 📝 3. Lastly, remember to take breaks throughout the day and make sure you get enough sleep. This will help you stay energised and more productive. I am well aware I might have lost some of my audience with golf related content, but we can all take something from Team Europe's emphatic victory in Italy this week. Kudos is something I prefer to give face to face. These days though, like most other things, we can do this virtually too. In fact, I do this daily courtesy of my Strava app which allows me acknowledge and encourage my friends who, like me, are into their exercise❣️ I’m not connected to Lionel Saunders the professional Triathlete who is featured in the video below though. Nor am I ever likely to be or have the need to be for that matter. He definitely deserves Kudos though. As, in my eyes, the way he deals with his disqualification from last weekend’s 70.3 World Championships is I feel an exemplary example for us all of how to use disappointment. We all have a tendency to fall into “Angerland” as he puts it, when faced with our own disappointments. (I definitely have this trait) So this is a great lesson on how to be a class act both on and off of our respective race course❣️ You don’t need to understand the rules and regulations of this niche sport to appreciate the ability he has to articulate his truth whilst still embracing the personal learning from this clearly emotional experience. This is proves that successes are just nice to have’s. But failures, like this one, are must have’s! As these are what help us grow and be better. Massive apologies to Tommy Fleetwood for screen-grabbing his slo-mo saliva moment that was akin to Russel Crowe's scene from Gladiator, but what an image to show the passion of the Ryder Cup. What is it about the Ryder Cup that brings out so much passion and emotion from the players, coaches and crowds! There's nothing else quite like it. And for someone who doesn't watch much golf at all (one of the few sports that fits in this category) I definitely jumped on the bandwagon for this year's Ryder Cup, as it dominated my weekend. But I was interested in looking at why this format is so successful in warming our cockles so successfully. Here's a few ideas I had over the weekend: 1. National Pride - pitting the best golfers from the US vs the best from Europe 2. Team Format - players form strong bonds with their teammates and a sense of camaraderie and unity that fans can identify with 3. Tradition and History - the amount of mentions of Seve show how much the teams use history to gain an advantage 4. Partisan & Passionate Fan Base - The energy and passion of the crowd add to the drama and emotion of the event, and the "home advantage" is a real factor 5. Team Uniforms and Colours - teams wear distinctive uniforms and colours 6. Moments - simple, the big moments just feel bigger, and heroes are made in those clutch moments that go down in history Europe were out for revenge after the record loss two years ago. The US will be wanting the same in New York in two years time. Someone wind the clocks forward wont you! #golf #rydercup #competition

Applying the 1% to everything we do makes a significant difference to both performance and outcome. Congratulations to both NSW and Victoria for topping the World Skills Australia Comps. On a per capita basis, solid performances too from both WA and Qld Even Tasmania deserve applause for their gutsy five silver medal performance. However South Australia's results are alarming and throw considerable doubt on the southern states much vaunted commitment to the National Shipbuilding Program and to Vocational Training generally. The Commonwealth is providing $10Billion dollars a year towards Vocational Training in Australia and frankly taxpayers need to see significant skills improvements across bench marking comps Can anyone offer an explanation? (Designed by industry and skills experts, WorldSkills competitions assess an individual’s knowledge, practical skills and employability against strict criteria. Focusing on the highest quality of training standards, employers and training providers can use the competition to benchmark their own apprenticeship and training programmes.)
