This May, let's recognize Mental Health Awareness Month by highlighting the importance of mental well-being at work. As employee mental health can significantly impact a company's success, here are 6 strategies they can consider prioritizing mental wellness. Company Culture Transform company culture by integrating mental health care benefits and creating anonymous feedback mechanisms. Direct Feedback Gather feedback from employees about benefits that would improve their mental health, such as childcare or flexible PTO policies. PTO Policies Overhaul PTO policies to support mental wellness by eliminating sick days and implementing flexible PTO. Tech Solutions Explore mental health-care apps and virtual support groups to enhance employee well-being. Local Support Connect employees with licensed therapists in the local community through negotiated contracts with small group therapy practices. Lead By Example Reinforce mental wellness by setting examples like avoiding weekend emails, taking lunch breaks, and emphasizing the importance of sleep. Prioritizing mental health in the workplace is one of several ways in which the #MLGW Economic Development team helps Memphis and Shelby County businesses succeed. Find out how by contacting us at (901) 528-4228 or econdev@mlgw.org. #EconomicTuesday

Quiet quitting This is a term that has gained recognition throughout the world recently, but what is it? Quiet quitting is where staff don’t feel engagement with their place of work. They are out to keep their job, while doing as little as possible. The next big question to ask is, “why do they feel this way?” As Gallop has stated, in their 2023 report State of the Australian and New Zealand Workplace, “… they are more likely to be stressed and burnt out than engaged workers because they feel lost and disconnected from their workplace.” These employees, despite being a burden at present, offer a huge opportunity for the business and their colleagues. Thinking back to times when I felt a disconnect from my workplace, I believe that all it would have taken to turn the situation around was a conversation with a manager, a conversation where I was truly listened to and brought back into the fold and inspired. As we all can be sure, people are different and, by extension, people respond differently to being managed, but through a mindful change in how a quiet quitter is managed, a positive change can easily be achieved. With this positive change will come a happier, more engaged member of staff, who will also be more productive, and it is here where the business also gets a win. In the top 25% of business in Australia, nearly 70% of staff feel engaged. Imagine the boost businesses get from having such a great number of engaged, productive, and happy staff. Through our anonymised check-ins, Wellness App can help you find the areas of the business where staff may be struggling; have checked-out and be quiet quitting. With this knowledge, great conversations can be had to turn the situation around and build productive, long-serving members of staff. Check-out Wellness App today and show staff that they matter. www.wellnessapp.com.au
