Breaking into VC is hard. Finding ways to differentiate yourself is hard. Here's how I got a leg up: Along with my resume, I would share a 1-3 page deck that included things like: - A startup that fit the firm's thesis - An investment opportunity analysis - An industry deep dive - Important trends I had been following - A "why me" section + more. This would increase my odds tremendously of getting to the next round in the interview process. Tired of never hearing back in interviews? Try this! Going slightly above and beyond other applicants goes a long way. This may just be the boost you need to land your dream role in VC! #venturecapital #startup #founder #recruiting
Great advice. Another way is by posting such content on LinkedIn and it organically reaching people at these firms. My approach was slightly different. I wrote about a startup receiving funding and the VC firms involved, and the post would reach the firm itself (both the company page and employees).
Nicole DeTommaso thanks for the advice. I’ve always been interested in how people research investment opportunities and pitch the idea—is there a well known framework? A pivotal book? Or is it more an example of personal preference?
Love this!
Very helpful!
Nicole DeTommaso I love this approach. You can make a significant impression on a would-be (soon-to-be?) hiring manager by “giving yourself the job” and then going to work producing an authentic sample of what your work for the fiirm would look like. Any hiring manager worth a lick should recognize such an effort and pay attention to your free as a serious one.
Great tips! Works as a inspiration to any other given position that one desires to achieve
Wow, that's a smart strategy! Adding that extra touch can really make a difference. It shows dedication and effort. Good luck on landing your dream role in VC Nicole DeTommaso

1moThis is fantastic advice. I especially like the idea of including a 'why me' section to showcase your unique qualifications.
