Today is 5th June! It is a special date as Global Exhibition Day and World Environment Day have coincided on the same day! On this day we should think of making exhibitions more environment friendly! It is indeed a difficult task to organize an exhibition which is sustainable and creates less negative impact on the environment. Creating less waste and using fewer resources can be a key to manage a sustainable show. I think every show organizer and every exhibitor must work towards creating a show that has minimum impact on environment. We all can do some simple changes which can be easily implemented: 1. Reduce and Recycle - Single use stands generate huge waste. Instead think of an idea where the same stand or even posters can be used for multiple exhibitions. 2. Use water fountains or steel water bottles than using single use plastic bottles. 3. Go Digital - Use digital screens, rather than using posters for branding. for eg. Pillar wraps is a popular way of branding. Exhibition venues can come up with digital screens on pillars. That will save tonnes of paper. The same can be done for venue branding wherever possible. Create an app rather than printing show catalogues and pocket guides (we have done it for Incos Korea). 4. Go carpet free. Carpet waste is hazardous to the environment as it degrades slowly. 5. Use solar energy - Exhibition venues should be built with or the existing venues should be equipped with solar panels to generate enough solar enegry There can be many other ways to make exhibitions sustainable. We are already experiencing the effects of the affected environment and it is high time that we bring about the change. Day 10 ! What’s better than tech and chocolate ? Tech and music ! To be precise tech and ABBA! Wow ! Blown away by the avatars, created with a 65m pixel screen ! and prerecorded #abba backed by a live band and backing singers. 2 /3 whom were black, with a majority female band - all except the guitarists ! So actually tech / ABBA + #diversity ! What more could you want ? Amazing ! If you are in the U.K. it’s well worth the effort. Filmed with 160 cameras, in costumes to capture movement for the simulation, and 291 speakers and many LED lights in the arena the show is spectacular. What has this got to do with a sustainability advent? From the arena building to the food packaging, the 🚆DLR Pudding Mill Lane right outside - was conceived to be ‘more sustainable’ the building is 🛖wooden not concrete, food served in paper/ cardboard (except the crisps). With veggie & vegan choices, and way better quality of food than any other London arena ! Glasses vs plastic that are collected in trugs. The site was chosen carefully to be public transport accessible. These things matter to the inevitable footprint of venues- we can’t sit at home and not enjoy this precious life but the balance is hugely important esp to those we impact through our choices / being able to walk and use the light railway makes a significant difference in the impact for many - shame there was a train strike on the overground 😳. Whilst you can’t change the venue the choices you make matter ! Get a train, walk, use light rail! #ghgemissions matter. #sustainabledesign #sustainabletravel

Is the art trade capable of reshaping its practices toward sustainability? Victoria Siddall, a seasoned voice in the art world, fervently believes so.
