Nicolas Peltier’s Post

I had the great pleasure of co-chairing today with the President of the Korea Transport Institute(KOTI), Dr. Jaehak Oh, the opening session of the Leaders in Urban Transport Program (#LUTP), organized for the first time under the framework of the new World Bank Academy. This session is gathering in Seoul 51 leaders and senior managers of transport agencies from 10 countries, Azerbaijan, China, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Pakistan, Philippines, Rwanda, and Tanzania. They will spend one week working on case studies, exchanging experiences, and openly discussing the challenges we all face in planning and managing urban transport systems that work for cities and their residents. Four field visits of Seoul’s remarkable transport facilities and institutions will complement this intense week of learning. We were also very happy to welcome our colleagues from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Green Climate Fund, two important partners who share with The World Bank a strong interest in sustainable transport. Since its creation in 2011, LUTP has organized 75 of such training sessions and empowered over 2,500 urban transport practitioners from 102 countries. This week’s session - the 9th LUTP session co-organized by the World Bank and KOTI in Seoul, represents a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from the rich experience of Korea in planning and managing urban transport systems.
