Switching careers can be a stressful and daunting prospect for anyone who is looking to make a vocational change, but it can also be a source of inspiration and a catalyst for growth and for finding your life’s purpose. Today’s guest, Isaiah Deporto-Plick is no stranger to change, as he’s jumped between various industries to finally land on a path that is truly aligned with his purpose. Aside from holding a B.A. degree in political science, an MBA, and a law degree, Isaiah is also the Co-Founder of Fuerza Ventures – a firm that provides support to new startup founders of color – and a Legal Counsel at SSM, a woman and minority-owned boutique law firm that offers big-law-quality services. Isaiah candidly shares his inspiring story. We begin our conversation with a journey through Isaiah’s childhood, including the stroke and subsequent cerebral palsy diagnosis that changed his life from birth. Then, Isaiah explains what he learned from growing up with a chronic disease, an alcoholic father, and a very supportive mother, and how those lessons still apply to his life today. We discuss what gave him the confidence to make multiple career pivots, how he found his north star, and how he navigates life and career setbacks. If you are nervous about making a pivot and would like to let go of the fear, and/or if you’re still searching for your north star, then today’s conversation with Isaiah is exactly what you need! Micro-quitting is stealthy. You don’t always see the subtle, quiet decisions you make. It’s kinda passive-aggressive – but you are the passive aggressor to yourself. You’re busy. Probably stressed. Definitely overwhelmed. You choose not to show up. You don’t take risks. You don’t have your own back. But when you add up all the micro-quits over your week, what are you creating for yourself? What are you telling yourself? If you are micro-quitting you definitely have some strong thoughts even if you don’t realize them. What’s in your way? Want to stop stalling and take more action? I can help. Schedule a free consultation where we will dig into your goals and what’s possible. https://bit.ly/3T2MTwO p.s. An uncomfy question I often get asked. And it came up again yesterday at the Investor Ladder fireside chat where I was being interviewed by fabulous Tanya Arnold alongside equally epic Hazel Savage. Does it get easier to tell your story? In other words: Is it ever not terrifying to share our taboos when society tells us we should be shamed into silence? Of course not. Every time I share my story, I get a vulnerability hangover. Every time I tell the truth, I worry about what other people will have to say about it. However. Something fureaking fabulous happens when we share our experiences with vulnerability and authenticity. We give others the chance to do the same. That's why I do it. And the DMs I get every day from people who say, thank you for sharing, I relate, I relate. Not to mention the amount of clients I have got through showing up and sharing my story (we're talking 89.9% of my business comes this way). It makes it worth pushing through the self doubt. Your story matters, peaches. Keep showing up ✨️ #StoryTelling #FounderStories #FounderJourney
