How remote is Encantada? Answer: Very remote! Well, we have neighbours, but our village, Palau de Santa Eulàlia, is tiny and has only 100 inhabitants. You can even stand on the rooftop of our villa and see into the next village! If possible, when you arrive, we can arrange to pick you up from the airport or train station. Amenities within walking distance are very limited — we have a local social cafe, a restaurant and a village hall. If you need groceries or other goods, you’ll need to travel over to the nearby town of Figueres to get stocked up. If during your stay here you need to get about to other villages and towns, the nearest public bus stop is a 20-minute walk away (1.5km/just under 1 mile) and it goes through other neighbouring villages to Figueres. Also, we can give you the contact numbers of local taxi drivers (because Uber and other popular cab apps don’t work here — sorry!). You might also want to consider hiring a car and/or electric bike, for true freedom to explore your stunning surroundings. Or maybe you’ll be content just to stay in the villa. After all, you have all you need to make yourself at home, such as a smart TV in every room, spacious living areas to chill out, strong WiFi for all your internet needs, fully equipped kitchen to make all your own meals (batch cook to save yourself time — we don’t get takeaway deliveries out here!), downstairs patio with a hot tub, and a rooftop terrace decked with chairs and tables, where you can go soak up the sun. If you want hustle and bustle and every service available on your doorstep, then this isn’t for you. However, if you’d welcome a quiet break in peaceful tranquility, to bask in the slowness of small village life, then you’ve come to the right place! The most important decision I have made regarding my own working life is that I must be able to work from anywhere just needing my laptop, and so can anyone working for us. I've been fascinated by the nomadic lifestyle since I was a student. The best time was when I could visit the uni to pick up books in the start of the semester and come back to do exams in the end of the semester. Remote working has become huge parallell with faster internet and better technology, and it exploded under the pandemic. In some popular hot spots it has become a problem. Aka an opportunity. In my opinion remote working can save small towns and remote places. It is an opportunity to create value from everywhere. How can we direct the nomads people away from the hotspots and to destinations that struggle with decreasing population?
