So many People say let’s stay in touch, or catch up soon and don’t. The WEEDS have for 40 Years. Non of us know what’s round the corner so if there are people in our industry who you respect and enjoy their company pick up the phone today and organise a spot of Lunch.
IF YOU LEAVE A COMPANY AND SAY “LETS STAY IN TOUCH” MEAN IT! WITH PEOPLE THAT MATTER TO YOU Not far short of 50 years ago 5 of the people in this photo joined the global construction colossus that was George Wimpey as trainees. We were relatively poorly paid but received the best training, bar none, available in the construction industry at the time. Sadly we were experiencing the sunset years of this once great company and due to mismanagement, corruption and global events, the company went into tragic decline. So, in the mid 80’s, being young, well trained and obviously knowing it all, we left the company to experience what else the industry had to offer. But being good mates, we made a personal commitment to stay in touch, a commitment that we have stuck to for nearly 40 years, through all the trials and tribulations of our lives We formed the WEEDS, the Wimpey Ex Employees Drinking Society, and met on the first Friday of every odd month for “ beers and a ruby” These nights were somewhat bacchanalian in our younger years but are somewhat more sedate now. Every year we had a summer trip to France for a very, very long lunch, (there are tales…..🤐) but sadly the French food we enjoyed there is very difficult to find these days, so now our Jolly Boy’s day out is held in Bouchon Racine in London From L to R Nial (Nigg Bay) Dunne - Ended up UK MD of IBM Yours truly - Procurement Legend Brett (Nobby) Seyforth - Actor musician, sales rep and freelancer Dave (Kitson) Kitson -Site manager, Contracts manager, Construction Director Nick (Kruger) Stonley Land Director, MD, Consultant Richard (Dicky) Carver: Ex business owner & lifetime honourary member
I have two groups that stay in touch from over 40 years ago. Kingston Polytechnic RFC and London Irish RFC. Xmas and past players lunches, golf days, etc. 😁
Great posts, well done guys 👍
Too true Kruger One of the great disappointments to me has been how few ex acquaintances and colleagues in the industry bother to stay in touch. Here’s to the next 40 years !
That's a great photo, well done the WEEDS!
