Is YouTube the future for reality TV? Just look at what happened last week 👇 The Sidemen launched reality show 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 on YouTube on Sunday 2nd June, with a daily episode dropping across the week. It did 40M+ views, averaging 5.5M per episode. 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 launched on ITV on Monday 3rd June. with 2.2M views; it will likely do 100M+ views total across 48 eps, around 2-3M views per ep. 📺 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 is UK only, but with the ITV marketing machine behind it. 🕺 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 is global, and with a creator-led marketing machine behind it. 💰 ITV will make a lot more money from Love Island than the Sidemen do from Inside. But it’s still 5M vs 2M views per ep, and at significantly lower production costs… For the 16-34s audience, YouTube and creator-led long-form content has massive potential. Agree? ————————— 🤓 Useful? With every episode of SWEET TOOTH that I watch, I grow increasingly frustrated with the resistance I met while developing THE STARSEA BEACH SENTINEL SOCIETY as a family show. Why are platforms/networks so rigid about having a specific "shelf" on which to place a property? "If there are scenes featuring only adults, where will this show live?" Was a constant question as was the statement "Kids don't want to watch adults." As long as it's an integral, contained part of the storyline, I disagree. Demographic-crossing content that is engaging/relatable/accessible is just that. #sweettooth does an incredible job of doing exactly what I strive to do; create entertainment that can be enjoyed by a multigenerational audience. STARSEA features a lot less violence and language than ST - however mild - but is specifically designed for that "entertainment desert" that is the tween+family space. Maybe it's just because the ST series is based on an existing IP, but still, I applaud #netflix for having the vision to venture into territory that seems to be avoided by so many others. There is huge opportunity for quality content in this space. Let's start filling that need.

This is an absolutely perfect example of marketing strategy, foresight, and brand building. So often brands don't want to invest in content and buildign an audience because they can't see the return tomorrow, or the next week, or the next month. For the brands that make the investment though they become titans and icons across industries. If you want to stay small and fight for ROI constantly don't invest in a content marketing strategy. If you want to become a well known and idolized brand. Maybe stop asking if you can get a video for $500.
