The Research Innovation Team at Alzheimer’s Society is exploring how they can improve access to a timely and accurate diagnosis, particularly for younger people. They are looking to develop a solution that enables clinicians and their patients to access more valuable health data in their appointments. They are keen to understand what information is most valuable for clinicians to have access to in appointments. They would value input from clinicians by completing the form below to help inform what the solution looks like. They are also keen to understand whether people living with and affected by dementia would be comfortable recording health data before appointments. They would value people affected by young onset dementia sharing their views by completing the form below to help inform what the solution looks like. Exciting new research suggests that balance measures derived from an insole sensor can help differentiate prodromal Dementia with Lewy Bodies (MCI-LB) from other conditions. In a study with 98 participants, a machine learning-based pipeline accurately identified MCI-LB with up to 78.0% accuracy, surpassing traditional demographic and clinical measures. This breakthrough could revolutionize the timely identification of MCI-LB and lead to improved care for patients. Public engagement plays an important role in the work of physicians and researchers. It is essential to develop contact points between health professionals and citizens outside the fast-paced environment of the hospitals. It is also vital to establish effective communication, free of the jargon of academia. In Modena, each year we dedicate a day to public engagement to promote the latest knowledge in the field of dementia. We also express our gratitude to all the individuals with lived experiences and their families, whose interest and participation make our research projects and clinical trials possible. The third edition of this initiative will be held on Saturday, February 17th, and there will be plenty of information! Silvia Cossutti will present on the clinical trials for Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia that are currently active at our centre. Chiara Gallingani will discuss the role of neurofilaments in assessing the causes of cognitive decline. Finally, I will talk about the evidence synthesis process and share the results of a systematic review on the prognosis of mild cognitive impairment.
