The team First Tech Federal Credit Union were such a joy to have in the Free Food Market today. They helped with our weekly delivery from Oregon Food Bank, filling the shelves for neighbors who need food. Thanks for your friendly faces and for volunteering!

Thanks to you, our neighbors, more than 130 families had Winter Wishes fulfilled. Staff across our programs loved "shopping" from donations to distribute directly to the people we serve: Children in #HeadStart got clothes, toys and coats, families in our #Housing program received household goods for their new homes, families in the #Parenting program got toys, books and diapers as well as coats for moms and dads, and food donations went to help families through our #FreeFoodMarket. Thanks to everyone who supported our #WinterWishes drive!

During the Covid pandemic shut-downs, the demand for food was the greatest we had ever seen, particularly for our delivery service. While society might be open again, the need for food isn't receding. In fact, it continues to rise at alarming rates. November was the busiest month we've seen since before Covid, and according to various reports, food insecurity has been growing pretty much everywhere. Here's where the Neighborhood House Food Security program is this quarter compared to last year's number of people served: Individuals served is up 26% Households served is up 28% Visits to the pantry are up 25% Individuals served multiple times is up 27% Pounds distributed is up 21% That's even higher than Food Security Program Manager Jim Cooper expected to see when he ran the stats. Jim and his staff are looking forward to moving into our new building, where the Food Security space will triple in size. We've planned this move and expansion to serve the increasing need, but more needs to be done to address the underlying causes of hunger. People want to be able to provide for themselves. This current environment isn't allowing for that. #foodsecurity

Two of our programs directly support child care small businesses, so we are watching the debate on this funding bill with great interest. Access to child care affects everyone in the community - even those without children - with a direct impact on overall employment, wages, and even housing. The Child Care Stabilization Act would extend vital stabilization funding to prevent a potential crisis for families and our economy by ensuring child care providers can continue serving families across the country. #OregonChildCareAlliance #ChildCareImprovementProject
