Today we celebrate the incredible achievements of women everywhere. 🎊 Here is a glimpse into celebrating pioneering Women in Invention and Innovation: 🎓 History Makers: 🏆 Mary Dixon Kies: The first woman in the U.S. to receive a patent in her own name (1809) for a silk-straw weaving process used in hat-making. 🏆 Marie Curie: Credited with inventing mobile X-ray units during WWI, facilitating treatment for soldiers, and paving the way for radiation therapy in cancer treatment. 🏆Amrita Sher-Gil, a pioneering artist, is considered one of the first women to significantly influence the Indian art scene. Her work challenged the prevailing styles and paved the way for a new generation of Indian artists. 🎓 Women in Innovation Today: 🏆 Shalini Kapoor (IBM India): A prolific inventor with 10 patents and a champion for science education through her "Escape Velocity" program for Indian schoolchildren. 🏆Ritu Karidhal, a celebrated scientist and aerospace engineer, joined ISRO in 1997. Her leadership on groundbreaking missions like Chandrayaan-2 (Project Director) and Mangalyaan has earned her recognition as a leading figure in India's space exploration efforts. 🎓 Women and Intellectual Property in India: 🏆 Indian Brands by Women like Nykaa (beauty), Lovebirds (fashion), and Mapro (food) demonstrate the growing presence of women-led businesses that leverage trademarks to protect their brands. 🎓 Statistics on Women in IP: 📈Significant inventions by women in the history includes: GPS, coffee filters, windshield wipers, Wi-Fi, and a whole lot more. 📈 Globally, women inventors make up only 16.2% (2023), while men hold the majority (83.8%). 📈 In India, the percentage of female inventors filing patents between 2019-2021 remains low at 10.2%. 📈 Women comprise 57% of trademark associates in India. 📈10 percent of active patent agents and IP facilitators for start-ups in India are women. This is not just another group photo we took for social media purposes. This picture shows who inspires me to do my best work every day: our Inventors of the Year. Honoring our Siemens inventors is very close to my heart because they embody the core of what Siemens stands for: innovation. They are the ones who drive innovation, find answers to our customers' biggest problems and change everyday life for everyone. I'm especially pleased to see so many female inventors. They are role models for women and girls, showing them how their inventions create a lasting impact – for our company, our customers, and society as a whole. The brilliant women in this picture have achieved such things as revolutionizing the transparency and understanding of AI decisions, improving the design process in factory automation through an AI system, and much more. From developing a "customer heartbeat" to introducing innovative security solutions for industrial networks, all of these inventions remind us of the power of innovation. They remind us of the need to take action in our world and find solutions that have a lasting impact. The road to recognition has not always been easy for some of these exceptional women. It's a harsh reality, but it's important to recognize that women still often face significant obstacles in male-dominated workplaces and have to contend with stereotypes, such as not being able to be "real engineers" - a concept based purely on bias and prejudice. I am so proud that despite these challenges, they have persevered and overcome barriers with their unwavering determination and ingenuity, making an invaluable contribution to their field of work and encouraging others to do the same. Thank you for inspiring me and reminding me every day why I love doing what I do so much!
