We hosted a congressional delegation from the House Armed Services Committee at the shipyard today. During the tour, the congressional members saw construction progress on Columbia- and Virginia-class submarines, as well as on Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. They also witnessed how NNS is innovating with technology, including fixture-based manufacturing, to increase efficiencies across the shipyard. The USN F/A18 Super Hornet 6GEN replacement requirements laid out to inlcude; "operational reach, capacity, long-range kill chains, autonomy, and next-generation survivability as key enablers in the Air Wing of the Future and supporting Family of System.” From an AAR point of view it will be interesting to see deployment / evolution / replacement of the MQ25 Stingray (VUQ-10) to be part of the supporting Family of Systems and if that runs alongside / compare to the USAF Next-Generation Air-Refueling System (NGAS)
The US Navy has confirmed that Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman are actively competing to develop and build the service’s next-generation, carrier-based fighter jet as part of the transition towards a sixth-generation capability.

Ten years and $5 billion after Sikorsky's VH-92A Patriot was selected for the second VXX program iteration - the second effort to replace the 40-year-old VH-3D and 30-year-old VH-60N as presidential helicopters known as "Marine One" when the president is aboard - the helicopter is still not flying the president. And the USMC and Lockheed Martin/Sikorsky won't say why. The VXX program dates all the way back to 2003. Teamed w/Augusta-Westland, Lockheed's US101 was selected in the first go-around, only to have the program balloon to more than $11 billion and be canceled in 2009. So, 21 years after the effort began American taxpayers have shelled out more than $16 billion for an aircraft that still isn't operating for its intended mission. Another case of gross acquisition malpractice. My story in FlightGlobal. https://lnkd.in/gN7hsX4d
