New York lands first major financial award of CHIPS Act the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub, the consortium will get $40 million from the Department of Defense’s Microelectronic Commons Program and aims to bring together academia, industry and government organizations to help New York’s chips industry with innovation, attract new companies, strengthen the workforce and bolster the industry. “This first-ever Department of Defense Microelectronics Commons Hub award is booster fuel for the rocket that is Upstate New York’s booming microchip manufacturing industry,” Schumer said in a statement. Great in depth article on the work P33 and its Innovate Illinois partners have been doing to prepare for a world #BeyondSilicon. It's exciting to see our state leaders thinking about how we leapfrog other regions as #technology accelerates and not simply focusing on winning today's race. The big question that will need to be answered is how we do this AND ensure all of our residents win and not just those with typical credentials. This is a very tough question that will require a lot of workforce partners and community leaders to help answer. But, it's been refreshing to see the federal government and the state make this a point of emphasis from the start instead of having to play catch up once the industry is built. This will require a lot of fine minds to get right.

Vermont has been designated one of 31 Tech Hubs in regions across the country by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). The program application, on behalf of a consortium of businesses and organizations submitted by the University of Vermont, is focused on building on the strengths of a semiconductor technology called Gallium Nitride at the GlobalFoundries facility and elsewhere in the state. This is the first phase of the new Tech Hubs program, which is an economic development initiative designed to drive regional innovation and job creation by strengthening a region’s capacity to manufacture, commercialize, and deploy technology that will advance American competitiveness. https://lnkd.in/eQfNe8eu
