It feels like a good week to share our next step in brewing good beer for a better planet: regeneratively grown grain. Beer is made of two primary ingredients: grain and water — both of which are jeopardized by a changing climate. By using regenerative grown grains in our beer, we can help improve soil health, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and benefit regional ecosystems. Recently we made a multi-year commitment to use REGENMALT from Proximity Malt. The regenerative methods with which it's grown can reduce agricultural impact on the planet and ultimately make farming more profitable, but the costs to make this transition and the time required to realize the full benefits of soil health are a reality for all growers transitioning to regenerative farming practices. We believe business should be a force for good — and that's why we push forward solutions to the biggest environmental challenges to our industry. By working with like-minded partners, like Proximity Malt, we can support famers during this transition from conventional to regenerative practices. Learn more at https://proximitymalt.com/.

Really enjoying the discussion on the state of carbon markets by Kevin Silverman at the Regenerative Food Systems Investment forum today. There's a lot of criticism on the offset industry right now (some of it justified), but also a lot of good outcomes (like the recent credit issuance for a CarbonLink™ project 👏👏). A consensus in the room is that the future of carbon markets in agriculture is in 'insetting' using recognised protocols for transparency. I'm personally excited to see more of this, where producers get paid a premium for their product. Regardless of the mechaism - we need these carbon markets to incentivise change. Without them we don't have a way of rewarding producers for transitioning to regenerative practices.

What is regenerative agriculture and could it be the key to unlocking many of our global challenges? Can we create a nutrient dense food system that supports the health of people and planet? Can we address environmental degradation while stabilizing the climate? The new film Common Ground (Movie) answers these questions and many more. To amplify the film’s message and take a deeper dive into the regenerative movement, we invited a diverse cross-section of visionary leaders whose work is closely aligned with the themes in the film to discuss the film each from their perspective. The conversation connects the dots between critical issues and promising solutions. Key insights included the critical role of data in driving sustainable practices and markets - Ethan Soloviev at HowGood, the importance of nutrient-dense food systems - Tina Owens, Nutrient Density Alliance, the role of certifications in promoting sustainable farming - Elizabeth Whitlow, Regenerative Organic Alliance, and the economic and ecological benefits of holistic land management - Will Harris White Oak Pastures. Hosted by Thea La Grou at Films for the Planet Access additional educational resources and watch the speaker presentations to gain deeper insights into the regenerative movement and its impact on our planet and health. An interview quotation attributed to John Kempf I think is good systems thinking, especially when many farmers making an effort to shift to regenerative practice are still vulnerable to commoditised pricing in supply chain offtake: "We don’t need regenerative certified farms; we need regenerative verified supply chains. As a component of the regenerative supply chains, we need to ensure that an adequate proportion of the money that’s spent on food goes back into revitalizing rural economies and regenerating the capacity for stewardship. That’s what regenerative agriculture should be all about, not about regenerating soil health exclusively." Improve soil health, revitalise biodiversity, sequester carbon, and achieve nutrient density uplift in food, for sure, but regenerate people and rural communities as well. This is gonna take time and a whole lot of varied stakeholder engagement but is that a reason not to start looking at things in a joined up way, getting the in-field measurement in sync with the off-field markets and vice versa?

Founder of PDG Global & Coffee Intelligence. A group focused exclusively on the coffee sector: from publishing to digital marketing and trade shows.
"More than a sustainability buzzword, #regenerativeagriculture is a transformative agricultural approach that can offer environmental #sustainability to #coffeeproduction. But the amount of investment and attention it’s received from large multinationals as well as more niche specialty coffee brands makes it a clear asset for business growth – begging the question why." In this insightful article, Olga L Cuellar Gomez speaks with Ricardo V. Pereira (Purity Coffee) and Mickey Mcleod.(Salt Spring Coffee) about regenerative agriculture aims to achieve, why it has become more popular across the coffee industry and beyond, as well as the corporate benefits it can bring at large. https://lnkd.in/eedK-xnE
