RELEASED: March 2024 Global Climate Report 🥵 The Earth’s record temperature streak continued in March for 10 months and counting. ▶️ Global sea ice extent was the eighth smallest in the 46-year record at 6.97 million square miles. 🌀 Four named tropical systems occurred across the globe in March, which was below the 1991–2020 average of six. 🌡️ According to the #NCEI Global Annual Temperature Outlook, there is a 55% chance that 2024 will be the warmest year on record and a 99% chance it will rank in the top five. ❄️ Northern Hemisphere snow cover extent in March was below the 1991–2020 average. 👀 Read the latest from the Global Climate Report for March 2024: http://bit.ly/Global202403

RELEASED: Global Climate Report for October 2023. Fast facts on the #StateOfTheClimate last month: ▶️ Earth had its warmest October and January–October period on record. ▶️ Antarctica had its sixth consecutive month with the lowest sea ice extent on record. ▶️ For the seventh consecutive month, global ocean surface temperature set a record high. ▶️ Fifteen named storms occurred across the globe in October—nine reached tropical cyclone strength and seven reached major tropical cyclone strength. ▶️ The past 10 Octobers (2014–2023) have been the warmest Octobers on record. ▶️ According to the #NCEI Global Annual Temperature Outlook, there is a greater than 99% probability that 2023 will rank as the warmest year on record. Not only was October 2023 the hottest on record, there is now an estimated >99% chance 2023 will be the hottest on record. It's also the 3rd consecutive month with average global temperature anomaly greater than +1.5C, a critical warming threshold for climate impacts to people around the world.

New report "European State of the Climate 2023" is out now. Compiled by Europe's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the WMO, the report gives a comprehensive and scientifically-backed overview of how climate change is impacting Europe. Here are some facts: 1️⃣ Combined estimated losses of extreme weather events in Europe in 2023: €13.4 billion. 2️⃣ 5000 km2 of European land burned due to wildfires in 2023 (same size as London, Paris and Berlin combined). 3️⃣ 41% of Southern Europe was affected by strong, very strong or extreme heat stress during July 2023. 4️⃣ From 2022 to 2023 glaciers in the Alps lost around 10% of their volume. Bottom line is: Europe has been warming twice as fast as the global average (2.6°C above pre-industrial level for 2023), becoming the fastest-warming continent on Earth. 🌎 Assessing the Global Climate in June 2024 June marked the 13th consecutive month of record-warm global temperatures, with Africa, Asia, and South America experiencing their warmest June ever. The current El Niño climate pattern is forecast to last until May and will likely result in higher temperatures in 2024. What is scary is that by 2100 NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration predict a 2.7°C warming of the seas increasing pressure by more than 15% leading to a 60% rise in extreme weather events. #climatechange #globalwarming #extremeweather
