In the era of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), college athletes are securing substantial brand deals—the current estimated annual value of these deals stands at $750 million, and is projected to escalate to $3-5 billion by 2025, according to On3. These deals often fall into the category of “windfalls,” or unexpected influxes of cash, which can leave many consumers—including student athletes—with questions about how to be smart with their money. Enter: NerdWallet - the smartest decision for all your financial decisions. NerdWallet has partnered with college basketball stars JuJu Watkins and Robert Dillingham for "The Smartest NIL Deal Ever". Through this first-of-its-kind deal, both athletes were contractually obligated to commit to making a smart financial decision —for Watkins this meant developing a budget, and for Dillingham this looked like consulting with a financial advisor. NerdWallet is also doing things differently when it comes to contract transparency—both athletes will reveal their deal terms with their fans and followers to help keep themselves accountable. NerdWallet is there to help guide consumers through their options—whether they’ve been issued a large tax refund, received an inheritance, or have just signed an NIL deal.
