Recently, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) issued a cautionary message to South Africans seeking jobs abroad. With unemployment reaching unprecedented levels, a growing number of desperate individuals there are falling prey to fraudulent job schemes, both within the country and overseas. These scams can involve elaborate human trafficking schemes that exploit vulnerable and distressed individuals. The situation is particularly concerning for the youth who are faced with diminishing job prospects within the country and often turn to international opportunities for employment. It's crucial everywhere, globally, to advise young individuals within your family and community to exercise caution when applying for jobs to avoid them becoming victims of these deceptive job schemes. The complex and convoluted laws on British citizenship are really just silly and outdated. We have built this mess over at least 60 years of using people as workers whilst ignoring their long term rights and our responsibilities as a parent nation. If he is not classed as "British" then who is? This is another case of a "technical" issue instead of a genuine problem with nationality. Mainly down to him not having a passport and being a low paid worker over many years. The slave economy which creates people of a "grey" immigration needs to be sorted out and simplified. We must stop using people for our own ends then casting them aside in a crazy rule. A proper system of working visas v citizens who have a British passport needs to be introduced. Nobody should be allowed to have a quasi status as this leads to all sorts of issues. He should have a passport from his own country and also clearly have a right to stay here due to his time served and worked as a tax payer. The home office needs to be made to work properly and the law changed to deport anyone immediately who breeches the rules back to their own countries. Regardless of this personal circumstances which are clearly being manipulated at the moment. However, at the same time we need to have simple rules that if your here to work and can prove your working and have a paid job etc... you get a reasonable accomodation for a visa i.e. 10 years. This enables people to plan their lives. Most other countries have longer term visas and this seems like a fair trade off. If I know on entry I have 10 years to stay it's fair.
